Clownfish ID

The color and bars don't suggest akindynos. The mid bar has me confused between two species.

Agreed, akindynos normally have a very distinctive "flesh" colored face.

So that leaves 3 other white tailed clowns in the clarki complex.

The third pic has an allardi look to it but the other pics don't. 95% of the allardi I have seen also have a yellow triangle at the base of the caudal penducle. They keep this even as adults when their tail is all white. I am not seeing the yellow triangle, but it may just be the pictures.

The body shape does not look very chrysopterus to me, nor does the coloring.

It mostly looks to me like what used to come in as Solomon Island or Vanuatu clarkis. Many of them came in with that mid-body dark pattern that made them very attractive and sometimes hard to ID at first glance.

What were you thinking?

here is a video link.

It's labeled a CB Clarkii at a local Petco...and the yellow hue on the tail suggests Clarkii....just not the typical ORA Clarkii that Petcos typically carry. Conflicting with that is the center stripe which I feel is just too narrow for Clarkii. So the mid bar and body/fin colors lead me to believe chrysopterus.

When I first saw the pictures I thought the fish might be CB from the shape of the face. I'm not seeing anything there that says chrysopterus to me. Even the tail color is very clarki to me. Whether yellow or white, chrys tails are never that transparent IME.

The mid-body stripe looks within normal range for a clarki to me, plus you have to figure in that since it is CB, the stripes could very well be affected by growing conditions.

Here you are, stumped, and I thought that you are holding class and is given pre-course quiz. I got all my pen and notes all ready to learn. :)

Oh wait, I can read what you guys wrote, see the pictures and still learn. Thanks.
