Long story short a guy at my LFS claims it's a fuscocaudatus, I told him no way its fuscocaudatus. Then he pulls out the Wilkersen Clownfish book and shows me a picture that looks exactly like this one, and it's labeled fuscocaudatus! I told him fuscocaudatus should have grey in its dorsal and caudal fins and he said there were two types of fuscocaudatus and that the one I was talking about is way rare. I think he's confused. Any thoughts?

its a chrysopterus. there are two types...a white tail and yellow tail variety...still a great fish, my personal favorite...

as far as i know, fuscocaudatus is not collected due to its location, and i was under the impression it had a forked tail....

I thought chrysopterus also, but when I told him he said ALL chrysopterus have a white tail. I think its a beautiful fish, but since he's under the impression its a rare fish its priced at $80, a bit too much for a chrysopterus in my opinion. Thanks for all the input guys.

He would be wrong about the tail.

fwiw: They are death magnets. A healthy, conditioned(6weeks plus in captivity, eating, etc.) can easily sell for $200ea.

Cool I was right then..thought it looked like the yellow tail one. I love how bright its yellow is ..but yeah..um.. I wouldn't pay $80 for it.

It's a misprint in the book.

The fish is chrys, clamped fins indicate that he is on the way out.

Yeah I was scaring him with my iphone trying to take a picture of him, probably why he was swimming with his fins down. He has actually been at the store for about a month now, eating and everything. He is very healthy. I talked him down to $60 so I'm thinking of picking him up now.
