my tomato clownfish of many years passed recently due to a blackout. the rbta got very lonely. i recently purchase ora percula clown, but it wouldnt go near the anemone. i bought a tomato clown yesterday, and so far, same result. what gives?
It took my clowns a year to host my BTA every fish is different and it might take some time. Watch out for that tomato he might end up beating up the percula.
I got a BTA in hopes my clown would host. She hosted a powerhead before I upgraded to the new tank so she has got the instincts. I hoped that with a new tank and new anemone she would prefer to host there. She much prefers to host the return outlet that is less than 6" from the anemone. You can lead a horse to water...
it can take forever for the clown to find the nem if u can try guiding it towards the nem with your hand if not just give it time. I had many nems in my tank and for the longest time my clowns liked the torch coral instead
I just read a post the other day of a guy putting a jar or vase over his anemone and Adding his clown to it and in 5 mins the anemone was hosting the clown. Don't know if that's right or if it will work but thought I'd throw it out there. Lol. Mine have always just eventually got it. My Perc's took longer than my false Perc's but they got it.
Iv had Maroons host almost instantly to a RBT, but black percs took like 2-3 months to host long tentacle. & I tried everything from putting a pic on the outside of the glass, to putting the clowns an a nem in a bucket. Like a fellow reefer said "you can bring the horse to the water, but you cant make it drink." lol time & patience is "KEY" to success it not a problem it just a situation, & there is always solutions to situations! Good luck and happy reefing
