Clownfish question

Okay, he looks to be about the same if not a tad bit better today. Both havent ate and ive tried to get them to eat... however since i added them yesterday they are probably still getting acclimated. I know that it isnt ich... so i picked up some rally. The treats a large variety of things, but ill wait a bit to see if he gets better or not.

Looked up "Rally" and it lists 3 active ingredients (see link at bottom): acriflavine, aminoacridine and formalin

The first two have some antibiotic/anti-fungal properties, but are mostly used topically. Formalin is useful in treating Brook & Velvet, as outlined above. But I wouldn't use this stuff in-tank, even a QT. Depending on the percentage of formalin used, this stuff could suffocate your fish if they were exposed to it long-term.

Speaking of Rally, apparently it is bad for corals (even though the mfg claims "is safe for reef" on their website):

The Rally-treated Xenia began to look bad the day after their treatment protocol was finished. They continued to appear from days four through eight. The morning of day nine, I observed that these specimens had the same look as the copper-treated negative control group. No live Xenia were discernable, only similar blobs at the bottom of the PVC collars.

Okay well I've seem many people and heard good reviews of people using it. The guy at my LFS said he used it mixed with the ich medication and it was fine. It is only a 3 day treatment most times... If not a day or two longer. How else can you even use it

okay well should i move them to a QT and just treat them there? Because I need to figure out some way to treat them IF i need to.

As a bath, same as Quick Cure. I think the only thing really useful it contains is formalin, and that works pretty fast for Brook & Velvet.

Okay, well how long would I do that? Same as a formalin bath? 30 - 60 min. I do have an old biocube that I just put water in yesterday that I could treat in...

Exactly. You can even just do it in a bucket if you want. Aerate heavily, and return the fish to the DT for further observation afterwards.

Oh okay.... If I see any signs that he may have something I'll do that... Should I make the dose a bit more since it's a dip? Also the thing I worry of is if it is parasitic then it is in my DT

I would not dips every day. Do them every other day. Formalin is hard on a fish and they need some time to recuperate.

okay.... I'm still in the process of determining what/IF ANYTHING is wrong.. here are some visual things I've seen

-I added them on Saturday
-Neither have ate yet, probably because they are pairing and are getting use to the new place
-They typically stay in the corner and just swim together, bump eachother
-The one that I am worried about every so often will open its mouth up wide and closes it right up
-No noticeable heavy/rapid breathing
-The white on his lip seems to have gone away a little, its harder to see it
-Also, I found out that they are NOT wild caught, they are tank bred
-There is a small noticeable clear bubble like thing on his side as well as the weird looking tan mark/object
-No slimy coat or paleness of the fish

Don't know if any of that rings a bell for any of you but I thought I'd share

Sounds like an injury.

-Also, I found out that they are NOT wild caught, they are tank bred

This makes Brook far less likely. Unless they contracted it at the LFS.

What the size of both your clowns? What else is in the tank? That looks like an injury and its just healing over. Might be the clowns fighting for dominance. Might be another fish that's fighting with it.

I think the Rally (whatever that is) freshwater dips, formalin and quarantine is hurting that fish more than that bruise. He needs you to leave him alone and give him some good food, preferably live food.

Nothing else, I agree with you, they bump each other constantly fighting over dominance.

I haven't done any of those dips yet, I have no reason to yet... Just info for if I need to. They haven't ate yet I will try some mysis... I think they are atill acclimating... Added them Saturday.

I think they will be fine! I've never had a sick fish come into a tank so I've just seen a lot of weird things, abnormal things than other clowns, never had a group of clowns pair either!

It's only a matter of time before you will encounter a sick fish. I highly suggest using that QT from now on.

Yes! I will! So how can I maintain a permanent QT in a old 14g biocube. I've read to keep seeded filter pads in your main tank sump and transfer them to the qt. Obviously water changes. What else?

THEY ATE JUST NOW! WOOO! One put down some mysis and the other some pellets and little piece of mysis. I was looking at the larger of the two... it looks like he/she (whichever one mostly dominates which i think is female) has some more aggressive teeth showing than it did a few days ago... maybe something to do with the white lip... but no white lip now.
