Clownfish Troubles

So my female clownfish smacked the male clownfish so hard that she messed up the side of his gill and mouth. Now he is breathing irregularly and won't eat. I tried dosing melafix but really can't tell if that helped or hurt him. He jerked around when I added it. Any suggestions on what else I could do. They have be in the together for over a year. He lays on his side and won't eat either.
