Clownfish turning female?

THS

New member
I ordered 2 tank-bred ocellaris clowns from LA about 3 weeks ago. At first, they always slept together, but now one is noticeably larger and more aggressive, chasing the other away from (her?) nest. I am assuming that this one is becoming, if not already, a female.

How long will this stage last, until they pair up?

well it never really goes away. the female will always be a tiny bit aggressive towards the male to ensure he doesnt try to become the dominant female. it was settle down though. its hard to say how long thatll take because it depends on a variety of factors. good news is ocellaris generally wont get so agressive the male will be bullied to death

I agree with the above. I just wanted to add that since the female is now bigger, the fighting should not last as long. Congratulations.

Just curious, since I am going to add 2 tank bread Ocellaris clowns to my tank when it is done cycling. Where did you get them from and how happy are you with them? Pics?

I got them from Live Aquaria. I am very satisfied with the quality of their fish, although the higher quality LFSs should have tank-raised clowns as well.

The only picture of them I have is from my facebook, I hope you all can see it.

Nope that didn't work. I'll be home in a few hours and will upload one.

The one to the right, "Sideburns" is the female. My blue damsel is never far from the clowns, like a chaperone.

This is my male. You can see my Bicolor Blenny, "Lenny" in the background.
