My clowns lover their nem they never leave it aunt even lave but within 2 inches to eat. Normally its 8-9 inches around when fully open right now it's closed up and shriveled up for what ever reason ( my timer for the 125 nem clown tank ditnt turn on today Mandy that's why) its in the 3 to 3 inch range and my clowns wont leave it alone they are very large clowns btw.

Should I be worried for my nems health? The nem is normally SUPER healthy my two clowns can be in the center of the nem and not be seen. So this is a sad sight to see for both the nem and the clowns.

from time to time, very rare now. my nems will shrivel right up to a nothing. almost looks dead with spaghetti arms or thinner, but after a day mine fill back up and bigger and better than before.

Thanks for the reply. I just went down to the nem/clown tank and its open again. Just a sore sight to see two large clowns trying to host a 2 to 3 inch nem when they are use to a large nem.

Does anyone know why nems do this? Is it acclimating/ getting use to it home?

Brandon,

Don't freak. It's normal for the Nem. It could "close down"(shrivel up) a couple different times per day actually. If it's the Nem you got from me, Very Healthy. They "Process" this way. They can also adjust to changes in the tank too in various ways, if recently moved.

I found that particular Nem, "shut down" daily and it was normal for it.
Always came back at different times- Bigger.

Those clowns would always hang on and near it. Even when shriveled up.
(It's their Nem! :) )

Feed it well, and make sure it gets good light. You should have no problem.
You'll get used to how it basically reacts in your tank. All Nems need to "process". Shriveling up, expelling water and "shutting down" as I've called it are very normal behaviors involved in this "process". Often happen daily, sometimes more than once.

I fed that nem full frozen cubes of various food, about every other day. It can actually handle pretty large chunks. All it really needed were 1 or 1.5 cubes per feeding and always did well for me. Don't over think this. I think your worrying too much. It will be fine. Nems like clean water too. Try to keep good quality up. That's all I can say.

Might be gas, or possibly pms, but like Gary said, just because they want to mess with you. It might have just had a snack or the clowns might have pinched a tentacle, or it's just working it's emo act for Americas Got Talent.

You ought to see my clarki tank all bent out of shape when the nem is taking a time out and not open enough for her. She will ram it and try to host in it, but the nem just closes up tighter.

Mine does that a couple of times a month. Looks like the end for the nem all deflated. The clowns banging it around. Comes back every time.
