My wife and I purchased two clowns last week and got to bring them home tuesday night. When we woke up this morning they were hosting in the frogspawn :) That makes the wife happy....she says they are getting their bellies rubbed. The smaller of the two keeps dancing for the larger one...we might get lucky,lol....can anyone id them for me...we cant remember what type they are....thanks.

You might want to watch the Frogspawn. The clowns may abuse it too much and it might die. Had a friend and his pair of clowns decimated his frogspawn. So you just want to watch it.

sweet!!! good luck with the frogspawn! i'm trying it out this weekend, my friend has a large frag for me and his clowns have been hosting in his healthy frogspawn for years, so it's hit or miss, you know. anyway, good luck!

Like Slakker said you have Ocellaris clowns and looks to be a pair at that. However, I am worried that your clowns might stress out your frogspawn since it isn't very big.

Look at my avatar, that's what it should be more like. ;)

Thanks for the warning...I took the pic after hours...the lights were out...lets see if I can get a new one...

Here is a better shot of em...did a water change tonight and noticed little spots on the clowns...is this part of them adjusting their chemistry to the frogspawn? We are new to all this...only had the tank since Sunday night.

What kind of spots? Are they black? If so, that's pretty normal for clownfish to get when hosting LPS corals in general.

im kind of new at this also.....5 months.but my first pair of ocellaris died on me within a couple of days.and from what it seems yours got to same thing mine had.it start looking like white spots and patches of discoloration.i went to my local lfs he told me it was a bacteria.mainly produced by stress.he gave a medication called gel-tek and it worked good with my second pair of clowns.i hope this helps..by the way if their not eager to eat it.soak it with their food.

They still have an apetite. We are lowering the salinety to help them get thru this...wish us luck and we will let you know how things turn out...

Agree...the picture certainly doesn't look good. The flaking/sloughing makes me think it might be Brooklynella.

I hope I'm wrong. :( Hyposalinity certainly won't hurt, but if it is brook I don't believe it will be the cure.

Certainly keep us posted, my first clowns nearly died on me in the beginning, as well. Best of luck to you and yours.

Neither fish is showing any symptoms other than having those white spots as of the moment...We might take a ride to the lfs and get some meds...we dont have a quarantine tank setup as we just got started and know nothing about doing so...really hope these guys dont die...this is not very encouraging for someone just getting in to saltwater...thanks for all the info..will keep you posted....

How long have you had your tank set-up? Since last Sunday that would make your tank 6 days set-up? That means your tank is still in the cycle process. Check your Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, and PH. Your tank may not be stable for fish right now. Its a beginner mistake most people make. Pretty sure your local fish store told you it would be ok. If they told you it would be ok I would not go back there. They should know it takes a couple weeks for a tank to cycle and be safe enough to add fish. You may get lucky and they pull through. But dont get discouraged if they dont. If you reed this forum most people on here say good things never happen fast. So if they dont pull through put it aside wait for your tank to cycle and then add a little cleaning crew. As you may experience algae growth. Since you say you are new I would read the New to the Hobby section. You will get great info there. I am new also I made the same mistake I got a little discouraged. But that hasnt stopped me from fixing the problem.

Sorry for misguiding anyone...the tank is not new...we are new to it...we bought an existing setup from someone in our community...the only thing new in the tank is the sand we purchased, the critters, and a few select corals...water quality is fine, we have it checked 2-3 times a week :) One thing that my wife and I noticed is that the spots are not visible when the tank lights arent on...fed them tonight and they both still eat like hogs? Not sure what this all means...hate the waiting game...

Just wanted to let everyone know that the white spots are gone on our babies...thanks for everyones help...we are acquiring a goni tomorrow that is supposed to be fairly large and we are hoping that the might move to it since our froggie is on the little size...

Lee & Linda

It worked...well kinda...our clowns are attempting to host in both the Goni and the frogspawn..the female more than the male...she must like the tingle or something...she goes back and forth all day long...the male just hangs out with the Goni...thanks for all the help...will post pics later once the Goni gets used to our clowns.
