Clowns will not host? Will they share an anemone?

Hello, forgive me if the question has been asked before, however i didn't see it when i searched for it-

I have what i now believe to be a pair of mated tank raised orange clowns, sold to me as true percs---- however i put in a yellow purple tipped serpea anemone and they pay no attention--

how do i get them to host___- i already tried to post pictures of other clowns hosting on the glass___- i did read that here, and wife thinks i am crazy--- tried to steer them into anomone, tried to shine flash light to lure them to the anomone, and I even tried to hold them over the anomone using a net-------

Question---WHAT CAN I TRY NEXT? ami i being inpatient?

and

if i get another clown--- seperate or same breed will they share anomone (ie clarky or a REAL TRUE PERC)

I have been trying to get these guys to host for 5 days now--loosing my mind with this silly obsescion.

at the fs, there was a clarky who was hosting it---- will clowns share an anomone if they are diffrent species?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but yellow sebae anemones are dyed and odds are your anemone will perish within a month. TO answer your question give the clowns time to host. Whether they decide to host or not is entirely up to them not the aquarist.

thanks---ok so which is a good anomone to have that won't wonder that would be a nice addition to the tank, that will have a likelyhood to host my clowns.

First, please --- CAP LOCKS

A sebea is one of the more common anemones in the hobby, and is a host to many clowns.

Being hosted is an instinct and not a learned behavior, so being tank raised has nothing to do with hosting. Suppose once you get to 10+ generation of tank raised that instinct will be lessened, but would take a very long time for it to be completely gone.

I have to agree with "ocellaris123" about the future of your yellow sebea, ( H crispa ), they (( along with white ones )) should be avoided.

Getting another clown(s) while still keeping your existing one wouldn't be a good move -- IMO, most likely will just end up with a dead clown(s).

5 days isn't that long at all. It can take hours, days, weeks..... for a clown to be hosted.

toddrtrex------ thank you for the insight---- guess i will be patient--h crispa is the anomone didn't know that they lived short life span. have a good recomendation for an anemone since if what you and ocellaris123 are correct i will be replacing him soon.

by the way like your photos of your tank----is that a potters angel or a rusty? i believe you also have a tail spot blenny? nice fish--- also like your clarki _ i would have gotten one aswell, however i found a pair of ocellaris that i enjoyed-.

Your lighting and filtration can support probably any anemone you want but I would start out with a Bubble tip anemone if it is your first anemone, or maybe even a long tentacled anemone if you have a deep sand bed. What are your system parameters looking like, and how long has the aquarium been running?

It isn't that H. Crispas have a short life, it is just the yellow (( dyed )) and white ( bleached ) ones do. I agree that a BTA might be the best one to start with.

Thanks, they are both Potter's, the darker/larger one is the male. I have had the Clarkii pair for 10+ years now.

very cool re the potters--- , my tank has been running for 2 months- this is my first anomone- when i looked at parameters last thur normal--- added anomone sat.

What are those parameters?

And, IMO, two months is too soon for anemone. Takes longer then that for the tank to "settle" in, and for the reefer to get used to the tank -- things still fluctuate too much at this point.

clowns will host in many diff corals and anemones. you just have to wait and see. mine prolly started using my xenia forest sub host after about 6months or so and then they moved to my elegance coral

i am still hopefull they will host, if what your saying is that is it to soon for an anemone, how long would you need before you put on in? wonder if i should return to fs and wait?

Assuming your "sig" is right, and this is your first tank, I would wait about 6 months -- that is usually enough time for the reefer to "learn" his/her tank, and go though the most common mistakes --- we all made them.
