Club donation

I wanted to see how you all felt about this. Waynesworld and his family sold refreshments (from his own pocket) at the frag swap with the intentions of the proceeds going to Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital. The club netted a little over $200 on the swap, so I was thinking we could donate $100-150 to the Vandy Children's Hospital in addition to the money Wayne is donating. The club doesn't need the money, so what better way to use it. How do you all feel about this?

TIA

Some of you may not know but a little over a year I was able to see first hand the amazing assist that we have in our area. The children's hospital is more then a hospital it is completely set up to make the kids feel comfortable and help the parents deal with changeling times. I know that if I was looking for a place to donate the last place I would do it would be a hospital as everyone thinks they make way too much money. Well I have seen what money donated goes to in this hospital and it is the kids from the game rooms that are on all of the floors with things to check out for the kids that can not come out of there room. Movies to watch before you go into surgery to make you comfortable. Also puppet shows on a stage and a Easter that you go around and get bigger things not just a piece of chocolate.

I still visit the hospital a little more then I like as we are still fighting with the illness that we beet once and will again but my kids wanted to give back to some place that gave so much to us. If you remember the girls serving the food that was my girls and the middle one is the one who in the last year went through 2 brain surgeries chemotherapy and radiation.

I'm all for it!!!

Wayne, thanks again for taking care of the concessions at the swap - you and your family worked your tails off that day, and I just wanted to say thanks. The food was great!

Hey I have an idea for something the club could do... We had to take our little girl there back in november for outpatient surgery and I notcied in the waiting room there was a NASTY saltwater tank. Look like it had not been cleaned in months if not longer. Maybe the club can donate their time to restoring the tank. Just an idea.... I dont know if somebody else is suppose to be taking care of it or not, but apparently they hadnt in a LONG while.

I am all for the donation as well as the tank re-hab. Anybody have any connections at Vandy?

I will check my sources.

I didn;t even realize they had a tank set up. We could follow suit on the West Tn. club (they are maintaining the tanks for St. Jude's Children's hospital). I am leaving (hate it...) so I don't know how involved I could be, but that would also be a great way to give back. I know someone here has connections at Vandy... Maybe we'll get LUCKY;). It would take a level of participation from the club unlike much we've done before, so if we can get something like this going, be prepared for an on going shift:). I'll see what I can hunt down. We talked about doing a set up months (maybe almost a year ago?) ago and I was PM'd by someone who mentioned that they might have a backer, so I'll see if that is still a possibility, too.

Which tank was it? There is apparently someone who takes care of a bunch of tanks around Vandy, but I don't think that person takes care of all of them. I'm not even sure where they all are. I was trying to meet up with this guy one time so he could take me on a tour. I'm not sure who he is -- c_stowers met him once.

I like both ideas. My wife works there but she doesn't know anything about the tank in question.

I would have to look up the exact name of the place... All I know is its part of the pediatric outpatient surgery waiting room. We walked in and to the left about 20 feet there was or what looked like a 75g reef setup that was covered in diatoms and red slime. It looked like it hadnt been taken care of in months. I dont know about any others there. Thats the only one I saw. Also if this helps, Emma's doc was Sean P Donahue, MD, PhD, maybe she can contact him or his office and ask where they do their outpatient surgery at. There were cancer patients in there too. So its a general outpatient waiting room. We were there for a clogged tear duct on Emma. Simple surgery and made us feel how lucky we have been with her, with that being the worst she has had to go thru so far.
