Club Election

HowdyGang

I like the idea of a secure method of absentee ballotting, HOWEVER, I am not sure of what the club by lawssay about elections. Might be worth a quick check before going thru the effort of setting up a website

Just my 2 cents

Stan

Stan, we can always count on you to throw a wrench in the works :)

I was also trying to think of a way we could make it secure and verify identities of the members. I don't want any controversies like "DinnerGate" because of a new voting system.

Also, the last several election meetings have had a very productive round table discussion following them and it would be nice to have as many faces there as possible to express concerns or new ideas for their club. Online voting may be just easy enough to not bring many members out to the meeting and we will have the regular 20 people there looking at each other.

Just throwing ideas out there. Feel free to add to them or shoot them down.

Do we have a PO box, or could members who have a legit reason for not being able to be there mail their ballots to the current secretary? I don't have much sympathy for the lazy or apathetic, but I do understand crazy work/family schedules

The main Problem is there are no contested positions right now to worry about it and we would need to know before the meeting who is running so we can put them on the web

If we find out who is running we could do a vote by PM to one officer

I took a look at they bylaws and there could be two potential issues with online voting. One, they state voting shall be done via a secret ballet. This could create an issue when voting online. The other potential issue is if any nominations are given just prior to the election at the meeting. Although I like the idea, I suspect it could be an invitation to another "Dinnergate" as Kevin mentioned.

Also, like Tom stated, its moot if there is not opposition to a position.

As much as I would like to accept the nomination, I think Kevin would do very well as club president and hereby nominate him (touché Itzme!). In all seriousness, he and I have been chatting and I think we both have a lot of great ideas. As Kevin mentioned, I was president of another club and have had some experience in raising capital and increasing membership. Its my hope to carry over some of those experiences to hopefully benefit C-SEA. Consequently, I would like to keep my name in the hat for VP.

And remember, if elected, I promise to work towards lowering salt prices for everyone!

Wow it's like a game of tag. LOL
I am very interested in the position and am excited to have the opportunity to do all I can for the club. I hope to hear some concerns and ideas on election night and look forward to the elections. I don't know if Mike has made a decision yet about running for president again or if it is an uncontested position.
Tom's list didn't show anyone interested in the president's job so I would officially like to express my interest.

If anyone else is planning to run I think we should put a couple thoughts in writing and let the people make an informed decision instead of just a popularity vote. I would like to know what one candidate feels is important vs. another candidate's feelings so the voting has some meaning for the club.
It seems like it should be this way for any position that is being contested. If there is a person with 20 years of experience in a similar position to one they are applying for and they don't have the opportunity to let others know that then the voting will not reflect what members feel is best for the club as a whole.

I've decided not to run for any positions this year. I'd like to thank those people that have sent words of encouragment over the past few weeks. I want to take break and be able to enjoy socializing at the meetings again.
