Club Fish Trap//Trading Blue Hippo Piggie

Hey guys,
My blue hippo tang is getting too big for my 75gal. There is no way I could net this guy because of all the corals and rock and he is FAST. Do we still have a club fish trap that members can borrow?

On a related note, I was wondering if anyone in the club would be interested in this guy. He is a thick 4.75-6 inches long and needs a bigger home. I want to keep him in the club as he is a "club fish" BACKSTORY: I got him from Ryan Stegall when he broke his tank down a few years ago. He was very thin and pale. Before Ryan got him, I believe Angela had him, and she got him from someone else. This guy is a survivor! He was origionally in a tank with another agressive tang that picked away at his dorsal fin when he was a young fish. Thats what started moving him around. I have had him for 2.5 years now and he has grown fat and is a brilliant blue althought his dorsal fit bitemarks never grew back. He currently lives peacefully with a tomini tang and a large coral beauty and they all share the nori.
I was wondering if anyone was interested in trading for this guy, he would love a big 90,125, or 180 I am sure. I am hopeing to replace him with another tang like a small-medium yellow, powder blue, purple, carrebbean blue, or even lemonpeel that does not nip sps. Just let me know if you are interested and we can work something out to get this guy in a bigger home!

I would but I dont think the Sohal would agree with me. on a side note, the 75 may be a bit small for a powder blue. if you get a small powder brown you might be good, but that established Tomini will be downright rude. mine was a bruiser who survived a powder brown and a purple when I added him. I do like those caribean blues

I may be able to get him a home in Dustins 650gal but will have to check with him first. I will be talking to him later today and will LYK OK.
Plus I think I had that Fish for a while in my 185 as i kept all Angela's fish while she got her 270 runnung, Funny

My tomini is a rather nice guy, he gives the angel a hard time but the angel is tinda a tool. My angel will not go rip nori off the clip but wait till the tomini gets some then try to steal it out of its mouth, then the tomini gets ticked, like I said the angel is a tool. The tomini is generally very calm and kind. I think you may be right about a powder blue being too big..still want one though!

Yes, Bill I think you did have this guy as well for a short time. Thanks for asking Dustin about him. Do you know where/when angela got him so I can estimate age?

I know it sounds extreme but the fastest and easiest way to catch a difficult to catch fish is to drain most of the water out of the tank. I have done it a couple of times and if you have something to put the water into you can just siphon it out and then pump it back in after the fish is caught. Some fish are easily caught with a trap but some won't go in it no matter what.

I dont think this matters or not, but I once had a devil of a Hawkfish. I got me a tiny gold hook and a chunk of cocktail shrimp and went fishing. Caught him on the 2nd try!

The clubs fish trap is still MIA. I got one that I got from ebay before they moved that you can use. JLMK

Fun wasnt it?

Very fun. It was an evil damsel that would chase any new arrival until it died. I don't even remember what kind it was but it got huge and ugly and mean. I have caught all kinds of fish, everything from blugill to small sharks, but this was way more fun. :lolspin:

Hippo/trap

cool, thanks for all the help Bill
Zef I will take you up on your offer for the fish trap, thank you!

When i had that fish and wanted to catch it with the trap, Of the three tangs i caught It was the first to go into the trap. Just put a veggie clip with nori in the trap, First near the door then after it starts eating from it start moving it further into the trap until you can shut the door on him.
That's how I did it, So Good Luck.
PS, Glad it will get a BIG home to spend the rest of it's time.
