Club vote

I am bringing this up now, but normally I would wait till the meeting to do so. As most of you know, I have been working with Science Central about the frag swap and helping them with the tidal pool exhibit that they have. Rob and I went there on January 14th to check it out and see what we were going to have to do.

Here it is, almost a month later, and I have not heard a response after several emails and calls to them. This is where paid members get to voice thier opinion.

Do we keep making an attempt to do work them in order to get the club name out there through thier site, OR, do we just cut the deal loose and do it on our own.

I will send out an email to everyone that is a paid member about this post. If you could, please post you response here so it is visible to all.

Thanks to all of you

It's possible that their budget is getting rather tight and that they no longer have the money to pursue this for now. My vote is to place this on the back burner unless we hear back from them. Just my thoughts...

This is true. They have NO MONEY right now. The economy is hitting them hard to. The tidal pool clean up was going to be all on us, according to the guy that Rob and I talked to at the meeting, they had no money to put into it at all.

I think we can do a good job getting the club name out there with out them. Dont sound like they are really that serious about this.

I agree with everyone. Basically, we would have to foot the bill and do all the initial work and continual maintenance. It would have been on thing if they would have met us at least half way, but since it's really all on us I'd say scrap it and move on.

I agree, They could at least give an email or a phone call. I am all for helping those out. But I think our time could be used elsewhere.

I would just post a flyers everywhere we could think of and rent a space to have a frag swap. Has hard is it to get people here to be speakers? or to make donations to raffle off in events? And being a first time event in Fort Wayne, how many do you think would really show up to be vendors, and buyers?

Well my opinion is to let it ride right now at least until we as a club get more established. This is one area where according to some research I was doing would help us to gain non-profit charitable status. I think we can pull off the frag swap on our own, maybe in a smaller venue as it is our first one. I think science central is a great outlet but our budget and theirs isn't allowing this to happen right now.

I callled earlier this year to see about prices at other places. Elegant occasions in Huntertown was pretty cheap $450 for 4 or 5 hours. The shilo on carroll was $600 or so for a saturday, but a sunday would be a lot cheaper. The marriot on Coldwater and 69 was around $600 as well. I can get the union hall for $200, but it on broadway right there at the GE over pass.

I was thinking on cutting the deal as well for right now. I think it would have been cool to help them to do the tidal pool, but when the SC cordinator told Rob and I that we would have to front all of the cost, that was a big turn off on the deal.

Who knows, maybe we can get the zoo on board to help us out with some things.

I wouldn't totally cut them out of the picture. It would be cool to help them sometime, when they have the finances.

My thoughts exactly Nate....some time in the future they may be interested in putting some money into something.

I agree with that. I don't mind trying to donate stuff that we all have and not using taking up space. Lord knows that would make all of our spouses happier. But I don't think we should have to flip the bill for the whole thing. I would like to see us do some community work though. I think that would be a great thin for all of us.

I think that right now is just not the time possibly for the two parties to work together. For sure in the future though.

One thing I have been thinking about is maybe see if we could set up some little reef or FOWLR for a kids home like Erins House. This would help teach the kids, and maybe let them possilby relax during a tough that they are going through.

if erins house does not work, I volunteer the fort wayne rescue mission on wed's and they do a lot with Charis house which is for women and children. I know they are getting a new house, but they are usually packed...just a thought....the kids there would enjoy it too I bet.

Thats cool and a great thing to talk about at a meeting to see whtat everyone thinks. I jsut think the kids would get a great amount of joy out of it.

Off topic..... but I have heard that IPFW is going to start or has started a marine bio class. That would be cool to find out about to see if its true or not.

The center for non violence deals with alot of children as well. All are great places. I think we should wait just a bit to see what kind of $$ situation we have for the club. We still have to take care of the non for profit for the club, The raffle is off to a slow start but we are selling tickets. We need to get enough to pay for the skimmer at least I hope. All great ideas and I hope we can all get together after the zoo so we can chat about some other ideas for raising $$ for the club I have spoken to phil about.

Oh for sure, we need to see where we are at with the money 100%. Just thoughts I had, and thinking out loud. It might be a few years down the road that we can do that stuff, just wanted to put it out on the table and get people thinking about possible ideas

Well I wouldnt mind donating some stuff, or helping out with setting it up and working with others to show them how to maintain them. But the only thing that worries me is going through all the trouble of helping them out (SC) and them not having the funds to maintain the tank or the fish, inverts. in it.
