Clumpy Salt?

Just curious if moist salt is still okay to use. I store it in my garage beside my salt mixing station and I guess it was too close and got sweaty I have broken majority of it up back into salt powder consistency but it still has clumps and you can feel it's a bit moist to the touch.

Any ideas on how to draw the moisture out? Leave lid off?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've always been under the impression not to use salt once it gets exposed to moisture so if it has already gotten damp then I would just toss it.
Otherwise, I grew up in a very humid climate and prior to whole house AC we used to use rice in our table salt container as a desiccant. You could put some (probably a lot) in a media bag and throw that in with your salt for future safegaurding as well as keeping the salt stored in a drier location.

Mix up 5 gallons worth and test it, specifically for alk, Ca, and s.g.

When moisture gets added, calcium carbonate will precipitate. This lowers alk and Ca, so you may need to add both back in by adding CaCl and baking soda to the saltwater mixture.

Like mentioned above it might not contain all the essential elements that dry salt does, but you won't hurt anything by using it. A water change of 10-20% is not really going to rock the boat too much when it comes down to parameters either IME.

Yeah I did a 10g test batch and it seemed fine I will be doing my water tests today to see if my parameters are out of whack corals seem happy though so not too concerned.

I left the lid off and have been shaking it around for the past few days not letting it settle and most of the moisture has come out....its about 1/4of a bucket I'll use it for my QT water worst case scenario lol

Thanks for the advice everyone really appreciated!

If calcium carbonate has precipitated, the separate calcium and carbonate portions won't be recoverable, even if the moisture is removed.

Oh I know once elements have been removed they won't magically come back....just saying it's helped get the clumpyness out as the clumps were making it take longer to disolve. And my corals are still happy so again not majority concerned. But will be doing tests later just to be sure.

I also dose the big 3 on an almost daily basis so anything that was removed will be added back slowly anyways
