CMAS Frag swap? Meetings?

So if that exists why not post it?

It would be so easy to plan dates and locations for meetings. From there you could add the topic / presenter / event in the future when they are secured .

I am sure you do not see my point at all. I join in December 05. January there are elections. I know nothing of the group or how things work. I am not going to go to elections. I look at last years schedule and it was pretty impressive. I figure this is going to be pretty fun.

06 had really 2 meetings besides the elections. We are in August.

If you are planning things then let people know.

I guess I am supposed to sit out here like a mushroom and be happy? Open your mouth and speak how you feel and you get jumped all over and a magical schedule appears.

I will shut up now and not voice my dissapointment over basically 2 meetings in 8 months. Whats the point of trying to help. It is all under control.

Thanks Prez!

Hello
Their is nothing magical about the schedule! We have been working on it for quit some time. You must know that quest speakers are just that invited guest of CMAS and as such we work to accommodate them and their schedule. As to the lack of info at CMAS.org Tom desires help with the wed site also, and the schedule wasn't posted as it is tentative at best. Last I heard Alan could be in Africa for our Sept. meeting. Lets hear some ideas !

Canar, the sarcasam in your post is uncalled for. It was obvious when the club called for help, that membership and interest had grown thin. I did not see you post in that thread??? And from the looks of the forum lately all you see is "getting out of the hobby" threads. Most of whom use this forum, and do not even belong to it's rank. I would think if you wanted change, you would come up with an idea, instead of attacking the way you did. Maybe if you would have asked politely what the upcoming plans are, or PM'd one of the BOD, you would have got your answer. Then maybe added something constructive. Instead all I have read is criticism. 6 swaps a year? By the forth one you would have all of 5-6 people showing up, and who would "volunteer" for these 6? Tell you what, I would like to see Borneman, Shimek, Anthony Calfo, etc, etc, do a lecture. How about you take care of arranging that? By the way, I have been a member for about as long as you. Sorry for my attitude here, I usually stay away from these threads, but I have read to many, and have grown tired of them.

See thats the bad thing about posting or writing emails. People can't tell if your being sarcastic or not and many times assume you are.

I just re read my first 2 posts. I do not see any sarcasm in them at all. I see concern, questions, ideas.

The sarcasm didn't come until I got slammed with the defensive "why don't you do it" attitude.

I am new to this hobby. I am not getting out anytime soon.

If I can't question why we are in the 8th month of the year and only on our second meeting then screw it.

Like I said the BOD and Prez are doing great. I am done with this thread.

For the record the things I am not happy about.

No summer schedule
No posted schedule
2 meetings in the first 8 months of 06
Not a single swap scheduled in 06

Sorry to those I offended expressing my dissapointment.

Ted

Ted,

Sorry, but it seems your comments hit a nerve with some of the folks around here! :D

As you probably already know, CMAS is made up of volunteers who work hard to juggle their CMAS efforts with jobs, families, reefing and other activities. Because of these other obligations, CMAS meetings/activities were held September to May. In some years, there have also been summer picnics.

CMAS will start up again next month. In the meantime, you are welcome to PM Doug Lehman, CMAS President, or any other board member with any meeting ideas you have. If you wish to volunteer to help us in the coming year, please let Doug know.

In your comments, you mentioned (eleven times) wanting more frag swaps, maybe as many as six per year. It's a great idea, but not likely to work unless we have multiple hoisting locations and enough volunteers to pull it off. Since I joined CMAS to network with other reefers and learn more about reefing, I think two-three CMAS Frag Swaps per year are plenty.

For someone who sated in his first post, " Don't get me wrong I am not complaining about the price of the membership", you seem to have several complaints, all leveled at the CMAS board.

You also mention, "It would be so easy to plan dates and locations for meetings. From there you could add the topic / presenter / event in the future when they are secured." If you think it is so easy, you really need to step to the plate and offer to help plan the dates and events. We would welcome the help!

Yet, you also state, "If I saw that kind of organization and planning and there were a couple swaps or meetings that required help I would be happy to jump in. Honestly right now I don't see much of anything going on."

Hope to see you at the planning meeting!

Boyd

Doug,

Hello Gresham
Welcome to are little corner of the world, hope all is well with you guy's. This is what we (BOB) were thiking. As you and Randy will be working all day, the thought was to have a late night meeting. 7:00 pm start with some of our favorites, pizza, refreshment and a power point presentation?

Hi Doug,

That will work perfectly with our schedule :)

It will be warm in Chicago in October - right? Since we are from California we only have tropical clothing. Will we need to buy those bulky things we see people wear on TV? I think you call them "jackets"?

Randy

Sounds good :D This native Chicago boy sure could use a few good slices of paradise  This time I'll leave the shorts at home, and bring a real jacket.

Heck, October isn't even considered brisk yet in the midwest. It's usually no cooler then a balmy 40 farenheit.
