CO2 Absorbants - New/Newer Type?

So I did the search but did not find anything. I guess there is a newer/new co2 absorbent out there called Litholyme, it works just like other CO2 absorbents when you sed in medical anesthetizes but I wondered if anyone had used it yet on their reef. I would think it off puts nothing extra and only absorbs but at the 30% higher rate.

Also, if anyone is buying the BRS or other CO2 absorbent, ya it works but if you want a much better uptake try the name brand SodaLime. Hence, their new product Litholyme.

The Sodalime is not round beads but instead all different sizes jagged pills from rice size to dust and it fully exhausts itself and has a much better impact for myself at least for PH increase. Give it a try if you're looking to try something different out. I think it is the pellet size being random and jagged with a huge increase in surface area that allows for more CO2 uptake, over BRS brand which is just round. Don't get me wrong, BRS works too, but it's like PetSmart carbon versus ROX 0.8. In fact, I wish someone would do some ref testing on it, I just don't have the time to record it all.

Anyways back to the topic, anyone tried Litholym? Let us know! I did not see anything using the search function by the trade name, so if I am late to the party don't chew my head off! Thanks.

I haven't seen any posts about it. It likely is safe enough. I don't know about cost.

Ya if that 30% increase is true that would be nice, less changes. I would imagine, being medical grade stuff it surly would not have any type of offgassing or anything.

As for the prices, they maybe a little higher but seems pretty much simlair to SodaSorb itself: (didnt compare it but it seems simlair to what I would expect to SodaLime)

I am needing to reorder so I think I will give it a try, Ill post back if it all goes to hell or works out. I am all for more effecient stuff!

I just ordered a bucket to try. I'll post my results once I've used it. Seems like it would work well to me from my research. I haven't been using any other CO2 absorbent, so I won't have any others to compare it to, only litholyme vs no absorbent at all.

So I got my bucket, 5 gallons for about $115 I think it was. They irregular shaped absorbent sure does work much better then the round absorbent like BRS sells. This litholyme is irregular sized and I think that really helps with the flow/absorption from the exhaustion rates I get and the PH I get in the tank.

So I have been using the litholyme about 2 to 3 weeks now and it seems to be exactly like soda lime, or the original soda based type CO2 absorbents. The website did advertise that this type was longer lasting by about 30%, however, I am finding that not to be the case in my reef use of what is otherwise a medical grade chemical used during anesthesia of patients. If it were being used in a breathing machine it might last 305 longer but in my ref tank the color change is bright and more easier to discern but the exhaustion comes I would say about 305 sooner. I dont know if these is becasue of the better uptake or what but I dont mind it too uch. I got a massive 5-gallon bucket of the stuff for just over $100, and it will last me a very long time. Versus the bags you get on eBay or Amazon that may or may not be expired and the tub on BRS with the round media.

In the end it will save me about double becasue of the quantity and the color change is much more obvious, then with the soda lime products so that helps too. That maybe another part of it, some soda lime media was pretty hard to tell if it have exhausted or not, with this new product, its very easy to tell. So I may have been using soda lime longer then I should have becasue the color was not obvious. Anyways, I am more than happy and when I do need more, I will go with this newer product.

That sounds like a good product, on average. I wonder about the capacity, but that'd be hard for us to quantify.
