CO2 and Tank Ph Observation

Being the reef geek I am, I found it quite interesting when my tank ph dropped from 8.1 to 7.5 during a party at my house....there was about 30 people in the house....breathing lots of CO2. The next morning, the ph was back to 8.0....kinda cool to observe.

I once read that a guy busted his kid for having a party at his house with his controller. He was on vacation, and was checking the parameters on his controller and noticed a significant pH drop as well. Come to find out his kid had a bunch of people over for a party. Could be urban legend, but it's kind of funny nonetheless.

Ha! I read about the guy busting the kid as well. But yeah it is common. When we have a lot of friends over, I see a drop as well that is very obvious on the apex graph. And once they leave, it is a steep slope back up.

My first thought was, oh crap, some drunk idiot poured something in my sump....but, then remembered about the excess CO2 issue....I just never realized that it could effect the tank so quickly. Pretty cool little representation of what is happening to the oceans now due to the burning of fossil fuels.
