Coco Worm starts breeding process in my reef....

I just wanted to share with you something unusual with my coco worm. I've had him about 2 months, super healthy speciman with two crowns.

Just today, I take a second look at my reef to see, some milky white substance leaving the tube of my worm.

At first I dismiss it as perhaps some mucos from neighboring corals caught on the feathers of the coco worm.

But then I look closer and notice that it becomes greater and greater with the amount of milky white material leaving the tube.

It was bizarre because the substance appeared in movement like thick cigarette smoke, it just wouldn't stop and the head of the worm never retracted it just kept slothing out the liquid all over my tank.

The fish would eat most of it but it just kept on producing for about 10 minutes.

I did this twice in the day, and on the second time was not as abundant as the first time.

Has anything like this ever happened to any other reefer with the coco worm?

my feather duster has been doing that for the past few days, only he does it almost 24/7!

i did also notice hes gottne longer, he has a longer tube, i know because there is a new maybe 3mm lenth of white tube groeing on his end where his 2 heads are, very cool

Craig Lambert and mr pink floyd,

Thanks for your response, I knew it wasn't waste and I knew that my worm was looking healthy, just that I had never experienced this before.

Thanks guys,

MG

i have one that releases what appear to be seeds or eggs. they are about the size of a pin head and cream/beige in color... it did this a couple times a day for a few days..... lots of them!!! they just floated around the tank, the fish showe no interest in them, food wise...

i'm guessing it's a female...... looking for some company ... :)

I just had this happen today with my coco worm. It's a huge healthy specimen with two heads - had it for about a month now.

My shrimp went nuts during the event, and all my corals opened up. Really cool to watch. :)

Does anything ever come of these breeding events? Can I expect more coco worms to start popping up throughout the tank?

Here are some pics of mine.
