Codium Algae Advice

I'm looking for any information about keeping codium algae.

I had a nice multibranched cluster of it until my hermit crabs decided to use it as a jungle-gym and broke it into individual pieces.

Is there any way to get this stuff to root? I don't see any roots or holdfasts anywhere on it.

At times its surface appears fuzzy and at other times it is smooth.
What's up with that????

Does it engage in any chemical warfare with other macros in the tank?

I love the way it looks, and I have thrown a few pieces of it into all of my tanks. Any idea on how long it will take to regrow?

BTW- It is the "thicker" stalked variety.

I had some Codium in one of my reefs. It started from a holdfast but I was never able to get it to attach to other rocks. Hermit crabs pick at it but mine always grew back from the holdfast. Algae eating fish (Foxface rabbit fish) will destroy it (holdfast and all) and it will not grow back.

Thanks, Honeybee.

Mine doesn't seem to have any holdfasts. Maybe it would develop some if it was able to stay in one place for a while. The hermits and bristle worms keep it in constant motion. I've never seen the hermits eat it, but the bristle worms seem to like it. Grrrrrrr!!!

Interesting stuff. I like its rubbery texture.

Anyone have any more info to share?
