Coincidence?

I noticed a green birdnest I had was dying back at the base. All other sps (acros, montis, etc) fine including other birdsnest and some from the same piece as this. I decided to take a look after lights out and found a limpet at the base. It's supposed to be a safe limpet and I have a lot as they were purchased from reefcleaners, and they generally do a great job with algae. I put this one in my sump for now.

I dose 2 part and have very stable params. But for the sake of listing them:

alk in the 8's
ca 420
mg 1300
no3 <3
po4 <.04
all red sea tests

Romove the clam and give the coral lots of light. They are bad for shading themselvs out at the base.

The limpit was probably on the already dead parts eating algae. I have not heard of them eating spa before, but I guess it is possible. I would think it is a shading problem.

I think he's just cleaning the area, or eating the dead tissue. Kinda like how blue leg hermits and bristleworms get accused of eating corals when they're just cleaning up the dead tissue.

your probably fine, but I'm sure there is lots for him to eat in the sump ... and safe is better than sorry.

Not all limpets are created equal. Some types do indeed eat corals, whether it's opportunistic or not I do not know. Remove the limpet and place it in the sump.

I put it in the sump just in case. I can't move the coral any higher it is up at the top. Only about 300par but that might be slightly higher for the blue led difference on the apogee meter. I have a few oother frags from this coral alk doing great so im not gonna start fragging it unless I see a lot more of it die at the base. It is thick at the top so I think it might be just from shading itself out.
