ColdWater Reef

Do you have any cool looking shrimps like these

What is that? That is cool. And don't say a shrimp:lmao:

I was thinking of using regular dry reef rocks...

or these if I can find good ones

any ideas where I can find something like this?

Those boulders will look great in a cold water tank. I really dig the colors on coldwater anemones.

Maybe a lawn/rock supply area? Or maybe even coldwatermarine. I'm pretty sure they have liverock but maybe not boulder type like that

How much if you don't mind me asking did Caesar charge you to build the tank?

Just ordered a Sicce 3.0 from Amazon at 2 AM last night.... it arrived at 10:00 AM today lol

Did not know Amazon was that fast.

They have a local warehouse. If you are a PRIME member almost all orders placed before noon ship sameday. They contract local carriers too, I believe.

Pretty surreal to order something on the internet and have it arrive at your door 4 hours later.

Sorry to barge into this post seeing that I'm not anywhere near Arizona ;) But...any ideas where to source coldwater livestock online? I've found one site that has a few things, but most are out of stock. I really want to start a coldwater tank, but there is no sense if I have nothing to put in it ;)

My only source so far is ColdwaterAquatic, I would call them and ask to see what they can get for you.

and I think they did charge me tax

Got it on the stand, just need to finish up plumbing.

Didn't realize how big the return pump is... It's a bit tight, but I think I can make it work. Only thing is, I will have to disassemble the plumbing whenever I need to do maintenance on the pump. Which I don't think should be much of a problem.

I might be getting some rocks and sand from the coast of Oregon, since I don't need that much, it wont cost too much.

Promise you guys I will take better pictures with my DSLR when I get livestocks in there!

New tank vs old tank (big tank is going to get picked up soon)

Yeah, those pumps are bigger than you think. I have the 3.5 on my 25 gallon. It would be too much pump normally (it would empty the sump far faster than it could be filled), but I have it go out to a chiller and then back up to the return, which winds up being like 6 extra feet of tubing=slows it down.

I have a union fitting on the pump, so I can quickly disconnect it for maintenance.

I'm gonna concentrate on getting small invertebrates / macroalgae / and small fishes like Eumicrotremus orbis & catalina goby

Gonna definately grab some anemones / corals from you too! Will give you a call when it's ready to go

The Lumpsuckers and Catalinas we've had, we can get the Catalinas on the regular but the Lumpsuckers we get come out of Japan and are few and far between. Last time we bought all 30 they had and public aquariums cleaned us out before anyone bought any.

The shrimp I know are out there, but have not found them. They congregate around the Snakelock Anemones out here at deeper depths.

If you are looking for that style of boulder, I have a pile of them on my side yard that used to be in my old display tank and some from Steve Weasts tank.

That would be your best bet for local sources. If you cant find any let me know and I can send you the dry ones by usps flat rate to save you on the shipping :D

Sounds good! I was the one who msged / email you about the rocks! I was hoping to get some dry one via flat rates, and maybe some live ones to seed the tank.

Do you have pictures of other type of rocks you use for the coldwater system?

Tank is almost all set up, figured out my plumbing issue (I hope)... now I need to find the right fitting for my 1/10 pacific coast chiller. After that, water test then saltwater!

Finally found the correct plumbing for the chiller. Waiting on 1 more part and I can set it up to the tank and run it for a water test before adding salt.

Had to fix the chiller fan since it was broken, now it's currently running in a 5G bucket. Reduced the water from 84F to 65F in about 1 hour. Gonna be 55F soon!
