ColdWater Reef

I will have a filter floss to get rid of the debris and detritus before it goes into the overflow. Then a bunch of Bio-balls for bacteria (I plan to wash these throughout the year to avoid buildup). Then a bag of Chemi-pure.

That combines with big water changes should be enough to keep my nutrient down.

I'm going to run a similar filtration setup on my 12 gallon wall mount. Also planning on trying out several different bacterial strains for coldwater. A little birdy told me that a well known marine company may or may not be working on this already for cycling coldwater tanks...... ;)

unfortunately the part didn't come in today =/ Hopefully comes in tomorrow and I can start setting it up

The Sicce 3.0 is wayy too much. I might switch back to a 2.0. Had to dial the pump down a ton!

Just filled the tank up and got it running a bit. There were some leaks, still fixing it right now!

what was leaking? not the tank right? your plumbing I assume? a 3.0 did sound like too much...

yup just the plumbing. It's either the 3.0 is too much and causing the pressure that result in the leaking. Or the the fitting is stripped. Either way, I'm changing the fitting and possibly changing up the pump

well I guess it is the bulkhead that is messed up. Tried everything and still leaking where I connect to the bulkhead. Gonna grab a new one on Monday and retry!

I purchased four threaded bulk heads about two weeks ago and they all leaked. I used Teflon tape and never had this issue before. No matter what i did they leaked. I ended up using silicon on the threads in replace of the tape and no more leaks.

Silicone grease?

I ran out of time last night, I will be trying Ace Silicone Grease 90% on sunday.

Paste and tape didn't work

GE Silicone 1 on the inner threads in place of the tape. Chis from About the Reef told me it was then only way to put threaded plumbing together. Are you leaking from the ruber gasket on the bulk head?

Nope, Leaking from where I connect the elbow to the bulkhead

I still need it to be removable for maintenance. The other bulkhead doesn't leak... just the one that's hooked up from the return pump
