Combating Cyanobacteria Blooms

Just wondering what methods worked for people who had Cyano blooms.
To save people from needing to ask the normal questions, heres the answers!

1. Its a 100g frag tank running a Remora pro with new 175w 12K MH over the frags (lps, zoas and softies) and 96 w of T5 lighting over the remainder of the tank.

2. Water parameters are fine. Sg: 1.025, PO4:0, NH4, Nitrite, nitrate, all 0.

3. I already reduced my photoperiod and increased flow.

4. I used the red slime remover once in the past on an old tank, and had a very bad experience with it...Killed the cyano, but the spike in nutrients killed alot of other things, so im trying to stay away from it.

Anyone have any other ideas?

You didn't list your pH readings. Check it. That stuff usually takes hold when you have low pH.

this is a sure fire way to remove it ( BUT DO NOT OVER TREAT TANK)... I have useed it for about 3 years now only when needed. with no bad conseces. maracyn. mardell makes it 1 pill for every 50 to 55 gallons. place tablets in a area of your tank that gets minimal flow so the desove well with out floating into any of your corals. no more than 2 for our tank and only treat every once in a while. I treat about 3 times a year. only when the red slime gets uncontolable. hope this helps

Do you feed the tank? I read recently that if you are not feeding the tank the bacteria does not fully develop. If it can't develop, then it can not handle waste from your corals. Try adding a couple fish to help everything cycle. It sounds crazy, but your tank may be too clean.

Vacuum it out, cut feeding, increase flow, skim wet, cut light, get some chaeto in the 'fuge, don't medicate.
