Coming home to visit 04/11-04/13

Hey everyone-

Coming home from Chicago to visit next weekend. I wasn't doing the reef thing when I left 5 or so years ago.

Can someone recommend shops to visit in Memphis/Tupelo? The only link that works in the sponsor thread is Kermit's. I thought I read a thread in your club forum about a couple other shops out towards Wolfchase too.

I probably won't be in town until late afternoon / early evening Friday and leaving late morn / early afternoon Sunday. So advice on shops considering those times would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

PS - Nice work on the St. Jude projects!

views but no replies?

I hope that's not b/c my username's "yankee" - I'm really a transplanted southerner by heart

Thanks again

Hey Ryan.
"Yall an't from 'round here are ya boy?"
Kermit's is always a good one to visit. Memfish is another one worth the drive. Something Fishy is out of business. I believe those are the only ones around town. I know their the only ones I go to.

So what do you folks do for drygoods and livestock? Is it all mailorder / internet?

Even though we have an abundance of pretty decent shops in Chicago (and surrounding), lot's of us do the internet thing.

I'll check out memfish and kermit's websites to see what hours are.

**edit - Wow their websites are pretty sparse. Are they regular storefront shops? Will have to call for hours I guess.

**edit again :D - memfish gallery looks very nice - Will definitely have to check that out

We do group orders for some stuff and just hit Kermits or Memfish for everything inbetween.
Their hour's are pretty much the same. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Open noon to 6 till friday. and then I think its noon to 5 sat and sunday. They should pipe up shortly.

Sorry Dave. Someone told me a while back that Something Fishy was out of business. I was misinformed.

I was just on the phone w/Richard at memfish - He told me that something fishy was still open too.

thanks for the info guys

Yankeereefer -
Where's "Napertucky"? And please bring some Lou Malnatti's pizza down here, will ya'????

And Barrett?!
.....Stirrin' it up with the LFS's!!!! Actually, Ken's inventory (and Prices) are pretty strong.

(Classy touch Dave!)

Naper"tucky" is actually Naperville :p Just my 'lil way of keeping things "down home", y'know

You like Lou's, eh? There's one pretty close to where I live - Ever tried Giordano's? Good stuff too.

I can bring a pie down with me, but not sure if it'd make it. It's a long drive, I might just get hungry

Hmmmmm, now that I think of it, chicago pizza for frags......Better yet might be Chicago Beef

Similarly, when I lived in Memphis,my boss was from California. He like Corky's so much, he'd have me ship cases of sauce to him every couple of month's - My personal preference is for Rendevous or Interstate

You're making me homesick. I used to live in Genva.

I can remember quite a few times waiting @ Giordano's on Rush for like 2 hours for a Pizza ... cant say that about anywhere here ... Memphis food sucks

You need to give Jim n Nicks a try while you are in town. Best pulled pork I have ever tasted!

where's Jim n Nicks?

It's on Germentown Road South of Wolfchase , just past Costco, on the right hand side if your going south.

Got home from my quick and dirty tour last night around 2am.

Pleasure meeting you Barrett and thanks much to for the stand - Once I get this weeks maintenance done I'll get to see if it'll work out right.

Couldn't swing by on the way out though, we were already running late (trying to make Memfish before closing) and wasn't much room left in the car after the in-laws loaded us up!

Got to visit Kermits and Memfish - Thanks to everyone for referring the stores! Both were extremely nice shops - I'd almost venture to bet, better than alot of the shops up here in Chi-Town.

We'll probably trip back through sometime this summer - I'll keep reading y'alls forum to see whats going on. Perhaps I'll get to visit the St. Juse system and meet a few more of you.

Thanks again!
Ryan
