Just back to the sixline for a second... My buddy has one in his sump now because it was aggressive towards the Regal angel (3") thats in his 125g QT by itself. The wrasse may be ok right now but it won't last forever... You have been forwarned, I also think that since your tank is a 55g and the tank I'm talking about is 3 times larger than your roughly it won't end well but good luck

There are a lot of people that have tanks with many mixed wrasses, DOZENS of them in the same tank. Flasher wrasses of all different species and all males. Just use the search function and look for wrasses and you'll find many threads on them.

I agree with Dmorty, although I've never owned a 6 line but due to all of the people talking about how aggressive they become I will never have one in my tank.

I wish you success with your tank and hopefully without too much carnage.

One other thing, Ocellaris are aggressive once they start nesting and protecting their anemone. Some of them don't even need to be protecting anything and they will just outright attack you and chew up your hand and fingers. Go ahead and search for it. Sure when they're juveniles they're sweet little fish, once they're mature look out!

What Pseudochromis are we talking about? There are many different that cover the spectrum from fairly nice (P. fridmani) to very nasty (too many to list) when kept as singles.

I had P. hexatenia (one of the few wrasses I actually really like) in pairs and the only real issues I had with them was their hatred against mandarin fish. Other fish never got bothered (unless you count the occasional cleaning as bothering). I would try a P. tetraenia pair if I would know that they do not harass my mandarins do death.

As for the ocellaris - they will get territorial as soon as they start spawning, but that is more on the defensive side. Wrasses as egg robbers will be on their enemy list.

All very informative!

TheRoewer; I've a Magenta Dotty back. For the most part, it's pretty peaceful. When I first introduced the Six line, it chased it around for a little bit and my Wrasse found refuge behind the flow pump. Now, it's emerged and no one seems to be bothering the Six Line.

Dkuhlmann; I haven't looked up the Six Line enough to hear stories about that, perhaps thats bad. But in my experience at working in this shop, the six lines are pretty neat and we housed them with everything. Again, important to note that they're all juveniles, and it is very possible that all of which you are all saying, is very true! As for the clowns, they do in fact nip at my finger if I'm doing an algae scrub, but only if I'm quickly moving. If I do it at a moderate not so disruptive rate, they leave me a lone, but if I cause some commotion, I usually get a nip. However, it's temperament with the other fish are pretty fine and I've had them for about two years now.

DMorty; I hear ya, but this could be said with fairlz, who claimed to have had experience with his wrasse for quite some time without any problem, again, important to note that it is very possible you might in fact be right, and I am not doubting the fact. If the wrasse becomes a problem, I've several other tanks as back ups that I keep. Currently, I'm remaining optimistic!

All great posts and informative, I appreciate you all!

Wouldn't it be nice if they were all just happy community fish?! :lmao:

That was my thought after I saw my first fish, a yellowtail damsel, attack the poor little clown pair I added next. So I said never again. Returned him and have bought nothing but peaceful community fish ever since. I do weeks of research before deciding on what fish to add. Above all else, I want peace. And so far it's worked out great. 8 fish coexisting as a happy family, with a 9th in quarantine, a clown goby, as peaceful as they get.
