Concerned with high PH

Hi, All.

I have a small 10g Nano Cube that I'm using as a QT tank. I'm cycling it right now with a Red Sea kit and I want to add two small clownfish that will be going in my DT in 45ish days. Parameters look good except for PH. For some reason it hovers between 8.5 - 8.7. Is this too high? Never had a high PH problem before. Also, my alk is 9 and my calcium is 470. Not sure if I need to lower any of these parameters. Been following Red Sea's instructions as best I can.

Let me know what you guys think!

Cheers,
Joey

How are you measuring pH? Unless you are using a calibrated pH probe I would think the test is more likely off than the pH of the water. I would not worry about it until after the cycle, but if it continues to hover over 8.4 and you are confident the test results are accurate, I would dose a 1/8 teaspoon of white vinegar daily until it drops down into range.

Thanks for the tip. I'm measuring PH with the Seneye monitor.

I'm retarded. I found a box that I needed to check called "Marine" that dropped my PH from 8.6 to 8.4. Guess I missed that when I googled the first time. http://screencast.com/t/S5ImhM1hmZ31

Sometimes it's just too easy. No idea how I missed that in my first set of searching.

I'm retarded.

Here at Reef Central we are a family oriented site and discourage statements like that.

We prefer the term "Slowest fish in the School":jester::rollface::clown:

Thanks for understanding!

And glad you figured it out!!!

So just an update here. Have done some small vinegar dosing and PH can't seem to get below somewhere between 8.4 and 8.55. I've verified with two test kits. Calcium and alk are in a good range. I have a small Pom Pom crab and two Maragrita snails in the tank. Will this harm them. The crab I just put in yesterday. The snails are highly active and eating a ton. The fish seem happy and eating well too. I may dose some CO2 instead. I have a skimmer so I'm not sure why it's so high.

IMO, that is just fine. pH is the very last thing you need to chase when it comes to your parameters. Truth be told, I probably haven't checked mine in 20 years.
