Conduit Bender

Since getting my new MH/CF light fixture I've decided to ditch the idea of building a canopy for the tank. Instead, I am going to go the DIY metal conduit hanger route.

Does anyone here have a conduit bender I would be to borrow for a day?

Oh man! I use them almost every day at work. From 1/2" up to 6". If you can measure everything out and let me know dimensions, I may be able to bend you up what you need! Rigid pipe, which is most likely what you would want to use for hanging something from is a little tougher to bend up, but still fairly obtainable. I would think that almost any lighting canopy, except for an exceptionally heavy one would be easily supported by 3/4" Rigid. If you use Thinwall Conduit (EMT), you may have to upsize to 1" or 1 1/4" to support something heavy

I would recomend IMC over rigid. Rigid would rust real fast.

I'm planning on using the 3/4 inch ridgid and painting it flat black. I also found that I can rent a bender for $5 at Taylor Rental.

I would use Rigid as well. Both Rigid and IMC will rust, but it would take quite a long time before that happened to where it would affect anything. If painted, it would take many many years before any rusting would happen. Just make sure you clean the pipe very well, as most batches have been coated lightly with oil to keep any oxidation absent in case it sits on a shelf forever. Also, the threaded end with the coupling on it usually has oil on it so the coupling won't get frozen on the pipe.

Yeah... I had a good design. Then I got a 30 inch long MH/PC combo light that's too big for a canopy. (Unless I dismantle it to retro fit in the canopy, but I'm starting to like the open top look.

there are alot of people starting business powdercoating and they are doing it much cheaper than you would think so you may want to look into that option . there are so many colors and textures that you can have it done and the stuff is all but bullet proof so rust will never be an issue .

Powdercoating would be able to get through the inside of the pipe as well! I can't believe that I didn't think about that.

If you're going with rigid, why not just use elbows (90's). You can use the cutter/threader at lowes for free. If I remember right, it much more difficult to bend rigid over emt

if im not mistaken he is tryingto make it look good also ,so the 90's just dont look that good astetically .
