coney grouper with damselfish

IIRC, a full grown C. fulva ends up as a 20" fish or so...I'd say the 5"-er is toast.

I'm not a grouper nut...just going by size differential and the fact that groupers have large mouths and appetites.

That's what I get for doing the math in my head while reviewing x-ray film. However, a 16" fish will still eat a 4" or 5" fish easily if it has a mind to do so.

a grouper will eat anything it can fit in its mouth...and if it can't fit in its mouth he will certainly try to make it fit...that said damsels are quick...give it enough places to hide and cross your fingers...but one day, the grouper will win!

I'd say an ambush attacker like a grouper will eat a damsel. I like damsels with aggressive triggers as the triggers just seem to swim at the damsel as fast as it can which is only at about 1/4 damsel speed. Or if you get a seriously bad attitude damsel he may beat your group up since I always feel most fish in the "bass" family are predators and not really aggressive in the true meaning of the word.

I have never actually seen a grouper beat up/kill a fish it wasn't trying to make a meal out of.

A fish that eats a fish= not aggressive
A fish that beats up a fish= aggressive

Thats just the way I always look at it.

Damsel's aggression is often underrated.......it's hard because either the groupers eating someone or someone's beating up the grouper.
