Configuring e-Mail

Hi folks. I'm starting to configure the e-mail alerts. However, I have a web-bsed mail account (Yahoo). Can I still use this functionality? I have Ameritech DSL, who convertedall their POP mail accounts to Yahoo web mail.

you will have to contact Ameritech DSL and ask them to supply you the DNS entry for the SMTP server (most likely from yahoo) and any special instruction as it may require you to authenticate to the server first.

Aha! Got it to work! Had to change the port number frm 25 to 587....

P.S. And the server is: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

I haven't configured POP Mail in like a decade... I'm really rusty!

Well, I am almost working. When I use nthe Test button, the e-mails are sent. However, I have set up scheduled status updates, and they just aren't arriving.

Does the control software need to be running non the PC for the e-mail alerts to work?

Yes unfortunately it does need to run as it is the client app doing the mailing.

Hmmmm.... is there any way to do alerts without having the client software engaged? (i.e. using LAN card)?
