Confirm ID- Gig?

I picked up two nems today. #1 is definately a gig (below). #2 I'm 75% sure is a gig because of the purple verrucae, but the shape of the tentacles and the color are throwing me.

The first one looks like a gig to me. On the second one, where to the verrucae stop? Do they fade, or to they turn into something more along the shape of a stripe? The tentacles look more like a mertensii, but it could just be that it's a gig that's still acclimating.

They both looks like Gigantea to me. Wait a few days in your tank and you can tell for sure. Does the tentacles move a lot. I do not think that Mertensii tentacles vibrates like Gigantea. Both carpets obviously not Haddonii.
Good luck. Keep us update.

I am really good at anemone IDs in person, but I have to admit that I am not always good looking at pictures.
Here is why I think your second anemone "might" be a mertens:
1) The verrucae are very bright and distinct. On gigs the spots are "usually" a little fainter. Although mertens are famous for their orange verrucae, they can also be magenta (I had one like that). Your's look purple, but I don't know how good your camera skills are at reproducing exact colors. ;)
2) The tentacle shape, but also the frosty tips of the tentacles are mertens like. I don't know if I have ever seen the frosty tips on a gig.

Here is a blown up pic of my current mertens showing the tentacle shape and frosty tips. Sorry for the focus.

Here are a couple others of a past mertens with magenta verrucae. These two pics are of the same anemone, but different from the one above. The spotting is variable among individuals. The above anemone has almost no spotting except on its foot.

Phil, it looks pretty much just like your Mertens. Hmmm..I suppose I should do some research. I've kept pretty much every anemone in the trade "except" Mertens.

Same as gigs? High light, high flow, on rock?

If the spots stop halfway through the anemones its a gigantea. Mertens spots almost mix into stripes at the bottum.

Phender! whats up how is everything?

IME the care for a mertens is more like a BTA. They like to get their foot in a rock hole/crevice with support for their "skirt". Water movement should move the tentacles but shouldn't lift their skirt very often. Think wave maker rather than powerhead. As always the more lighting the better, but for me, lighting that was good enough for haddoni or BTAs was just fine for mertens.

Things are good. I still have two tanks with anemones and clowns. My fish room is now a fish/dart frog room. The two hobbies are very compatible.

Phil,
What kind of light do you use for the frog? PC, T5, LED or MH? I am thinking of getting a tank, but still do some research for it now.

The frogs don't care, but the plants require a bright light that doesn't get too hot. I use 5000K to 6500K T5s. Some people use spiral CF bulbs (the ones you would use to replace incandescent bulbs).

Here is a good source of info http://www.dendroboard.com/
They also have local forums where you can find other froggers in your area.

Sorry for the highjack.

Anyone else who is interested please feel free to PM me.
