Connecting to the PC

Tried to post this on the support forums, but I registered yesterday and still can't post there.

I tried with both a Cat 5 cable and usb to connect to my computer and it's not recognizing the profilux. Any thoughts? I have the software loaded, and when I hit connnect I get not found or none with a lan card depending on which method I use.

To connect to the ProfiLux (depending on the model of the ProfiLux) you'll want to connect using the Serial cable from GHL. If your PC doesn't have a dedicated serial port you can get a Serial to USB adapter and you should be good to go.

A Cat5 cable is what you'd use to connect the ProfiLux to a network hub/bridge but connecting directly to the PC requires using the serial connection for the most reliable and stable connection. Once you're able to connect it this way you can then start working towards a wireless connection utilizing a BRIDGE.

Hope this helps.

I have the profilux 3. I had to switch to an older version of profilux control to get it recognized. Huge pain. Also can only connect with usb apparently, the cat5 not working at all. I have to upload firmware to use the newest version, which voids any warranty. Not the easiest system in the world to configure. Given all the positive feedback, I'm sure I"ll grow to love it, but it's a struggle at the moment.

Hiya,

Few pointers of hep. Firstly uploading firmware does not void any warranty, if you dont follow the procedure and crash it and then dont follow the options to reboot it and then ask us to reload it then yes thats chargeable as its all self doable. No warranty is void.

Providing you are connecting via the correct ethernet port on the back of the controller and then directly to your router, and follow the basic auto find set up, you will be able to connect via this method easily. You cant do firmware updates over ethernet however, this is USB only.

If still stuck as we cant give direct support here, please got to www.aquariumcomputer.com and create an account we can then resolve any further questions you may have from the above.

All the best
Michael
