Considering taking a sabbatical from the hobby. Is there a general rule for what one can ask for an entire, operating system, i.e. a percentage of the original/total cost? I've spent over $6500 on the system. Here is what I have:

-custom 120g aquarium. 48x24x24. 4-sided starphire. trimless, no eurobracing. blk silicone. central, island overflow. 4-point rtn closed loop drilled.

-reefflo sequence snapper circulation pump (CL)

-48" lighting fixture. 2x250 MH hqi, icecap eballasts. 2x54 T5 actinics. 2 LED moonlights. 2x4" icecap fans. stainless steel.

-2 unused 250w giesemann MH hqi 13k bulbs

-custom stand

-euroreef CS-2 skimmer

-korallin 1502 calcium reactor package

-eheim 1262 rtn pump

-auto-topoff system

-RO/DI system 100gpd

-oceanmotions ss compact

-magfloat XL

-120lbs LR

-indopacific farms 100g snail/detrivore package + 7 lg turbograzers

-approx $375 worth of fish and coral

The tank, in it's current position, is an actual island in the room, viewable from all 4 sides through panes of starphire glass. Here is a video of the reef (sorry for the less than stellar quality):

What might I expect to get for such a system? Thanks.

Setups almost never sell as a whole package for two main reasons:

1) People dont have the dough to shell out for everything at once. Most people slowly build up tank equipment over a year or more.

2) Most people dont need all the equipment. Obviously almost everyone on the website already has a tank. They might need a new skimmer, or the new tank and stand only, but seldom will they have a need for everything.

I try to sell for 1/2 price of new. That doesnt apply to everything though. For example if you have a $800 skimmer in great condition you could probably ask $600. Tanks unfortunately often get less than 1/2.

Just think about it from the buyers POV... what difference in price would it take for YOU to buy used over new?

You will be way better off parting out. If you are able to sell the entire package, it will mostly be for around 1/3 of the total price or less. Thats just an average of what I see a lot of setups go for.
