Constant algae haze on glass

magdelan

Fish?
I have recently noticed that there seems to be a reappearing had of algae on my glass. Now this would normally not be a concern... just wipe it of with the mag float, right? But here's the problem, it reappears within minutes of wiping it clean. Why does this keep happening? Something to do with the raising PH due to fresh air from open windows?

No skimmer. Running a HOB filter with filter floss and a bag of Purigen. I am doing 90-95% weekly water changes. Approximately 3.5-4 gallons.

Got to thinking here... I ran out of Po4 remover (PuraPhos) about a week ago. Only on Saturday did I begin running Purigen. I know that Purigen removes dissolved solids and some undissolved solids from the water column. However, I don't think it does much for Po4. Maybe I should reinstate a Po4 remover again. Any thoughts?

Why are you messing around with Purigen and Puraphos...?
Save yourself some money and run brs gfo.

You're kidding about using Macedon tap, right?

I'm not kidding about using tap. After taking down the 180, I sold my RODI unit. I've been using tap water in this tank for three years now with no signs of algae. I've never considdered GFO, but I'll look into it.

tap quality is constantly in flux!

Wasn't there something in the news recently about the water supply in Penfield area?

Cant say ENOUGH about the benefits of using RO/DI water. Although I'm sure SOMEBODY will disagree. Tap water has just all kinds of nasties in it as a rule

Let me just put this out there... If money were free and my wife didn't think that this hobby is a waste of money, you bet I'd have another RODI unit. I'm not using tap because I want to. I'm using it because it's wet and is less aggrevating than explaining to my wife that I just dropped $120 on an RODI unit for my fish tank instead of buying new pants for the boys, etc. If it's as easy as saying "RODI water is better so you should be using that", then just sent a unit right on over (I'll give you my address) and I'll hook it right up.

Yes, Gary. Penfield turned on their second pumps in anticipation of summer but instead of ramping them up slowly, they turned them on at 100% and stirred up some sediment that had built up from last year. They have since turned them off, let the "dust settle" and then turned them back on slowly which allowed the debris filters to catch the junk instead of essentially just blowing right by them.

Thanks for the concern. Gosh! I feel like a rookie again... AND STOP YELLING AT ME. hehe.

What do you do about the Chloromines? My first thought is to double check your temperature. Next, I'd try scraping the glass to see if it came back as fast.

If you're talking to me I wasn't yelling Just capitalized for emphasis. Cant you buy water there someplace? We have an LFS here that sells it

erndog, I was not suggesting that you were yelling. People who know me know my poor sense of humor. I suppose that I could buy RODI water but I haven't encountered any reason to have to. Perhaps I'm mistaken but, I thought that TRS' 180 display was running on tap. Seems to be doing ah'ite.

Gary, jeans and khakis with holes in the knees will be recycled in to shorts for the up coming season. Although I suppose I could buy a bucket of RODI instead of scissors. First world problems.
