containing chaeto

I needed to help keep the nutrients in check so I added 3 balls of chaeto to the refugium before the pump . Now small pieces are breaking off and clogging up everything that can be clogged. What is the right way to do this? At this point in time, I have removed all of it. Thanks

I'm no expert but I notice the stuff likes to sink, would lowering your flow rate help keep it in its place maybe?

its has been under a 6 inch Waive Point 8W LED clipon light that is suppose to be perfect for that growth according to reviews.

I put mine in a small square basket and set it down into the sump. If you have baffles and they are done correctly it shouldn't be able to move between them that easily. If it is, then you should be able to stop this with a piece of poly filter in the slot.

A bit of filter sponge placed between the baffle should do the trick. Note the chaeto on the top of the sponge in the pics. Looks like it's time to clean them out. HAPPY REEFING

If your chaeto is breaking off into small pieces, it may be that it is not healthy and is dying. I use gutter guard along the top of my baffles to contain longer strands. Be careful with things like filter sponge because it clogs. So make sure there is a place for the water to flow if it does.
