Controller worth the $?

I have a reef keeper lite which I am currently unhappy with. I'm thinking about switching to an apex. Is the apex worth the upgrade or is a controller worth the money? I plan on keeping sps and few lps when I start buying corals.

Just curious to why you don't like the Reefkeeper lite? I've had one for about 4 months now and It has been working perfectly. I love the looks and features of the Apex but for the money the Reefkeeper lite has been able to do everything I need.

My biggest issue with it is I have all apple products and have a hard time programming it. I can't use it for my heaters because I need to get into the controller through a computer so I can program it to stop turning on and off with +- .1 degree etc. I also like that the apex can be controlled from my iPhone anywhere I am.

Yes Apex is worth it. Gold is probably not worth the extra money unless you plan to run ozone in which case you need to monitor ORP. It does a lot, a lot more than I realized or probably need. The control is unbeatable but it is not plug and play, it takes some work to set up and get used to it. I used a reef link before this just to do lights and mp40s. I have everything -- lights, mp40s, return pump, dosing pumps, skimmer, heaters -- on the apex and it is really nice.

Yes; the alarms are invaluable to saving the tank. Can't tell you how many times the high-level sump alarm went off to tell my return pump had stalled.

The Apex is truly the heart of any successful system.

Apex yes. Apex gold no. Apex Jr. no

I went years without one but after purchasing a Apex I can't believe I went so long without one. Expensive but well worth the money, especially if you travel for work or go on vacation.
