Convict Tang

Has anyone successfully kept a convict tang? I got a healthy looking one, it was eating well and suddenly died after a week... This is the second convict I tried to keep...

Convict Tang

Have one that's been in my tank for about 10 years, has survived everything.
Came in to the LFS almost frozen, survived disease that killed every thing else in my tank except a eel. Has survived heater malfunction (95 degrees), the next day 65. One tough fish.... You really need to Qt, treat and feed the heck out of all new fish. Have had two others over years, one died after a few years when a tank crashed (pH problems) and the other crashed into the glass at full speed one too many times. (close head injury).

I had one on QT and then moved it to my fuge to fatten up some more, lasted over 6 weeks looked great ... it just died

I'll try one more

I had a medium one that was awesome. He went to a friends tank (and is currently still there) when we had to move. I recently tried a small one from LA, due to the size of our new tank. He did awesome when he first came in, eating swimming etc... then after a couple days he just stopped eating, swimming, he just stayed very inactive and died a couple days later. Glad you brought this up because I thougth I just had bad luck on this one do to the great one I had before.

I might give it another try. Such a cool looking fish. It not only sucks to lose the fish but it also gets expensive at $30-40 a pop.

The one I refered to was smaller as well, about 2 1/2".

What would you call med for this fish? Maybe 4-5"???

I had one years ago when I didn't know what I was doing and I'm sure I did something to kill it. Generally these are a little more fragile and it seems you are far more likely to have success ordering from a reputable place.
