Convince me to go with Kessil over S400

So here's the deal. I'm getting back into the hobby after an 8 year break. A few weeks ago I found an amazing deal on an unused 125 RR on Craigslist and just couldn't pass up the deal. This is going to be a slow build as I only have about $600/mo to put into equipment. I'm figuring it will be late spring/early summer next year before I get everything up and running. In an earlier thread I posted, I was immediately steered toward Kessil to light my new tank. I immediately fell in love with the pics and videos I saw on they're website, but I'm a bit apprehensive about the cost of these lights, so I've spent the last couple of weeks researching other options as well and have narrowed it down to the Malibu S400 fixture from LEDZeal. I am so close to pulling the trigger on this purchase, but my mind keeps going back to the beautiful pics of the tanks lit by Kessil fixtures. So I'm hoping the good folks on this forum can help me with my decision.

First off, I plan to stock the tank with softies and LPS. There will be no SPS in the tank as I personally do not like the looks of them. My main requirements are that the lights be LED's for heat and energy reasons. Also, I want lights that really bring out the fluorescent colors in the corals. To me, the biggest draw to this hobby is seeing a tank just exploding with electrifying colors! My third requirement is that the lights be programmable with sunrise/sunset features.

From the research I've done so far, the lights from LEDZeal seem to meet my 2 of my 3 requirements. I'm having trouble finding any pics of tanks lit by them which does concern me. Most threads on this site containing the term "ledzeal" seem to be mostly of the same guy chiming in and saying something generic about the great lights and deals at ledzeal.com. Kinda makes me think he's just an employee trolling the forums here.

My concerns/questions about the Kessil lights are:

I don't know the extent of they're programmability. Can they do sunrise/sunset? Does it require a separate or third party controller such as an Apex? (I'm not opposed to the idea of getting an Apex if someone wants to chime in and explain to me what kind of things it can be programmed to do. I'm all for automation of tasks!)

Number of fixtures. I'm guessing it will take 3 Kessils to light my 72x18x22 tank. Obviously this will increase my costs over the S400 which is 1 60" unit, but I also wonder again about programmability. Can multiple fixtures be daisy chained together, or does each fixture require it's on controller? (I really don't know a whole lot about LED fixtures, so I hope these aren't dumb questions!)

Which model/color option. The Kessils appear to come in 4 different models as well as several different color temps. I really don't know which model I'll need for my tank, or which color choice will give me those fluorescent colors I'm looking for.

Right now I'm leaning probably 70/30 towards the LEDZeal lights, but I am very open to suggestions. The money is only an issue in that it will just take me that much longer to set up the tank. (Been tankless for 8 years, what's an extra month or two?) I have no problem spending the extra money if it's really worth it, afterall this is an expensive hobby to begin with. I'm also open to any suggestions on other lighting systems that you may feel will meet my needs.

So, if anyone has made it to the end of my post, (I tend to be long winded!) I look forward to any comments you may have. Thank you in advance and I look forward to whatever advice you can give me.

Kessil A350W 90 watt Tuna Blue for $308 each at this site. They were $228 when I bought a few weeks ago. These are on sale due to the new A360W coming out that is 25% brighter. But these 350's are very sweet...!

How many do you think I'd need for a 6' tank? Do you think 2 would do it? I understand that not every square inch of my tank needs the same light intensity. Personally I think it looks more natural to have some areas be more shaded than others, that being said though, I don't want a big dead area in the center of my tank where nothing will grow if you know what I mean.

I really need more info on the ability of these lights to ramp up/down in a sunrise/sunset manner as well.

Is tuna blue the color that's going to get me the effect I mentioned in my original post? I'm sorry for so many questions but I just have in my head how I want the tank to look, I'm just not sure how to get there!

I'm about to make the switch to the Kessil A360W from my current ReefBreeders LED fixtures. I have a 7 foot 265, so I imagine I will need at least three, probably four. For now, though, I have only ordered two because I plan to gradually transition, and will buy one or two more as this transition progresses.

See, I was thinking I could always start with 2 and add a third if needed. That would help on the initial cost of start up. Especially if I'm going to need the extra money for some type of controller to get them to do what I want.

The A360W is clearly specified to light A 24" square, so I think ultimately you are going to need three. But, buy them as you can. If you start with two. figure any high light animals just go under the lights until you can swing a third.

A 350W is not controllable.

A 360WE are. They have been out for awhile. I have 3 on my 72" x"30 X"24.
No problem growing lps on the bottom @ %80. Best lights I ever had.

Is the controllability built in or does it require a separate piece of equipment? To clarify, I'm talking about the ability to ramp up/down as the day goes on to mimic sunrise/sunset.

You will need three on a 6' foot tank

For a 6' tank you will need 3 as each one covers 2'x2' (the wide version) The 350s cannot be hooked to a controller so you won't be able to do a sunrise/sunset, for this option you will need the 360s (a360we to be exact). Kessil has their own controller for $100 (I believe) to handle the ramp and color adjustment if you don't want to spend the money on the Apex, though the Apex and does so many other things besides controlling your lights. The kessils and be daisy chained so only need 1 controller. The kessils will only go to about 12% intensity before shutting off so they won't work as moon lights but that intensity is pretty dim so still works great for sunrise/sunset. Spectrum is adjustable from very white to deep blue and can be adjusted through the day along with intensity by the controller.
No experience with the LEDzeal so can't comment on that light.

Sunset/sunrise will have to be done through a controller on the A360's. All the popular controllers will work with the light as well as Kessil's spectral controller.

Thank you for the info! Being a gadget freak, I really am kinda interested in learning more about what an Apex can do for me.

You should take a look at the Neptune Systems website. They have a forum under support menu, you should be able to get a pretty good idea of the capabilities of the Apex there. Look at the control freak of the quarter threads.

I'm not close to using it to its full capabilities but to give you an idea; I use mine to control lights, pumps with feed mode, delayed skimmer start, auto top off with a couple of level switches and their breakout box, protection for my heaters in the event a heater controller fails so rank doesn't over heat (though you can control heaters directly), monitoring of pH and temp, shutoff of kalk addition if pH is too high. I like being able to monitor tank parameters from anywhere. I don't have my vortech pumps hooked to Apex yet but will eventually.
