cool digitata

I feel like digits are often looked over, do people have pictures of "forest fire" and "superman" digits? any cool others? I hear about them but rarely see them.

I thought forest fire was just red montipora digitata. a fancy name for a really fast growing
common coral that every LFS seems to have. With the right lighting (bulbs) and good clean
water it will really become more reddish instead of a more brownish look. I think.

and superman.. i thought was not a digitata... i forget the specie of it. But it is more encrusting
then branching.

You're WAY off ;)

This is a very accurate representation of the color, the stuff in the back is off but the actual coral in focus is correct.

There should be way more of these around. They literally grow like weeds and that one is AWESOME! Where was it, or is it yours? And how do I make a piece of it mine!

here are a couple of pictures of the forest fire in my system. they are from the same colony but in different place in my tank. the more light you give it the tip turn green. I have to agree very under rated coral.

after comparing your picture to the coral in my tank i am going to have to say
yours does look redder them mine... while mine leans more towards an orange
description.

i stand corrected. the common color i was thinking of was orange and not red.

now i want a frag of red.. i will remove some orange and replace it with that!

darn stuff breaks so easily, so i just take the broken branches and stick them in
a hole in the rock. before i know it.. it has encrusted over and it is on its way.

Logzor, I'd guess that picture was taken with just actinics on or your LED night lights? My orange digita looks as the others do in the day but looks like yours at night when the two LED tube arrays are lit up;)

Here are a couple macro shots of my digis.

Forest fire. Under full lights, then under actinics.

that forest fire under full lights looks just like a regular LFS orange mont dig.

if i just turn on two ATI blue+ bulbs.. even my common orange mont dig will look "more red" and what appears to be green near the tips.

i would expect forest fire to be red as red can be when under normal lighting.. meaning a mix
of bulbs most run?

i guess i just need to see it in person!

The picture I took is under 4 Blue+ 1 Fiji Purple.

These are under the same bulb combo I think but it will give you an idea how rich/deep the green color is:

I agree, wow! I might switch my halides toward the 20K to bring out the colors of my digitata. I really like this coral, it's forgiving and a rapid grower. Thanks for this thread.

I wish more people would show these off. there not boring at all they grow in crazy ways. they have awesome colors. I know that I am dedicating a quarter of my 90 SPS garden to them when its up and running. I do know that they are calcium hogs!
