Cool Mantis Vid

I found this guy in my tank after countless fish disappearances, emerald crab pieces & hermits disappearing. Would he be capable of killing a 4-5" Flame Angel? (one of my mysterious disappearances)

Set up a 28 gal tank just for him & moved the rock he was in with success! This video was taken right after I moved him to his new home. Note him just staring me down lol

Can you tell what kind he is? I know the lighting is bad...

Mantis shrimp will kill or injure for food and self defense. If not done sooner it will be done later.

how long did you have the angel? it's not likely he killed the angel if you've had the angel for more than a few months and was healthy. unless the angel harassed him. is he capable of taking out that angel? maybe. he could've taken out any animals around his size. he seems very lively. congrats.

One strike causes punctures or damage allowing bacteria or infections to develop and kill the fish. Otherwise the mantis could have went full blown psycho on it if freaked out.

Also, I don't care what size fish it is... getting hit by a smasher mantis is equal to being shot by a .22 caliber bullet. So yes, a mantis is capable of doing some damage to an angel...

I heard that if a mantis hits the right spots on the human body it can actually kill a human. no deaths recorded do to mantis tho.. yet..

a large spearer could for sure kill a human. lol at that large octopus running for his life against a much smaller mantis. octopuses kill sharks too.

Any mantis could. If hit in one spot specifically (a part of the neck) can cause seriouse damage. A large spearer has just a few more hitpoints on us such as the heart to aim at :worried:

A hit in the head may put someone in a short coma at best.

Said it in another thread, I'll say it here. It is the velocity, not the force of a .22. 2 very different things. Shoot a .22lr at most things a mantis eats, it's not going to merely crack or take multiple shots, in most cases it's going to go clean thru.

Cool. Thanks guys. Ill try and get more pics. He's not venturing out of his hole much. Maybe just adjusting to his new home. I've put hermits in there and so far they're all still alive. Maybe he'll get good and hungry lol
