hey guys....been a long time since i've been here but i'm thinking of doing a cooler tank(~70*) i'd like some fish suggestions.

i've always loved bandit angels so 2 of those would be 1st on the list. i also like it when there are more than 1 of the same fish. couple others i was thinking of:

-group of borbonius anthias (do they do well in groups?)
-tinkers or declives butterfly (small group of 3 or 4)

give me some suggestions please...thanks
 
Tank size? The bigger the better. Very big bioloads as tinkers and blotches eat a ton. All of those fish will get along together well.

Sounds just like my tank.

I have a pair of Juvenile Bandit Angels right now.
I am in the process of obtaining a Juvenile Tinker's Butterfly and a pair of True Hawaiian Flame Angels. ;)

You will LOVE the Bandit Angels, they are such big babies and love being the center of attention.

Good luck on getting the new tank and be sure to keep everyone posted on what you decide to do.

BTW I am currently running my tank at 72.

i was actually browsing over ur thread. bandits have always been at the top of my list. only thing is i would never get rid of my regals which are at higher temps than the bandits so i might just have to make another tank.
 
my guess is if i get this tank up and running Michael and Austin will be my two best friends! lol feel free to post all ur wisdom on this thread....id really like more fish suggestions as well.

If you have deep pockets, you could always buy a couple of the captive-raised McCullough clownfish from DFS--they offer them on Diver's Den every so often. I've read that they're very aggressive, though (tomato clown complex).

Or a pair of captive-raised latezonatus clowns from Sustainable Aquatics (also offered on DD).

Would keeping regals at 72 be a problem? Most fish are fine in cooler water.
 
No need to get rid of the regal, you could slowly acclimate it down to lower temps. Several reefers on here (and other places) keep their tanks in the low 70s consistantly with Pygoplites diacanthus.

Also, there are aquarists who keep bandits in warmer temps, although longevity is thought to be less when doing this... personally, knowing *most* are found deeper I lean towards the safe side and keep them cool.

Thanks for the article...but i was under the impression that the boxfish need closer to 60*, while the fish im trying to keep are more tropical but deeper so the temp doesnt get quite that low.
 
I am with Austin. Do not get rid of the regals. They will do fine at lower temps and you may even notice that they will seem much "perkier" once they are adjusted. I run all of my tanks in the low 70s or lower, and all of my fish do very well.

I assume that you are not planning on doing a biotope tank so you have many options.

Yellow Crown Butterfly (C. flavocoronatus)

Marcellae Butterfly


There are MANY others but this list includes some of my favorites....... in case you cant tell, I LOVE the Prognathodes butterflies.

my list of fish i'd like to put but worried about temp is....
-my 3 regals
-my powder blue
-my 6" imperator(worried about it being too aggressive w/the bandits though)
fish i want
-2 bandits
-1 moorish idol
-2-3 bellus angels
-venustus angel
-3-4 semilarvatus butterflies
-harem of lineatus or flame wrasses (1male, 4 females)
-2 multicolor angels

i like a lot of the larger angels as well but just worried about aggression. i tried to pick the most passive angels excluding the imperator...just hard for me to get rid of him. had him since he was a juvi and watched him change.
 
My main system ran around 72 all winter long, this is an SPS system and of the fish you mentioned I have (I see some similar tastes). Our new system will likely house 1-2 bandits once it gets cycled....

2 regal angels (hopefully pair soon)
2 multicolor angels (pair)
2 bellus angels (pair)
moorish idol
5 flame wrasses (harem)
1 lineatus wrasse

hahaahaa that's pretty awesome...do you have a thread w/ur tank i'd looove to see it. i guess we do have similar tastes lol.
