Copper Band Butterfly coming from Live Aquaria Tuesday!

I think LA packs them with enough water so they can last two days in transit. As you note, temperature will be the issue. Make sure to acclimate it to your tank's temperature carefully. Hopefully, the fish will start eating within a couple of days and bounce back from the ordeal. Good luck.

i had Fed-EX taking 40+hrs to deliver a couple of angelfish from NY before. The fish did fine. One ate almost right out of the bag, and the other ate the following day.

I would temp match the bag for about 20mins and just transfer the fish right on in. LA is pretty consistent with their water at 1.020, so if you are QT-ing, adjust your water beforehand accordingly.
 
I received mine from LA a few weeks ago. I would DEFINATELY QT....these are delicate fish. Mine ate mysis and spirulina brine within a day and learned to eat blackworms and clam within a week. I have found him a delicate eater at first so do keep him separate until he eats heartily, otherwise I would be afraid about the competition.

They are not active swimmers so the QT can be small. I did daily partial water changes from my main tank to keep the water quality up. I also did periodic fomalin dips and tank transfers to ward off ich. LA is a great source so you are way ahead by ordering from them. Good luck and enjoy!
 
I have kept many copperbands for many years and have spent time with them in the sea. Worms are a large portion of their diet. I feed them live worms, fresh clams and mysis every day and they live for years with no problem. They are always on the move and always hungry because of their small mouth. It is better to feed them twice a day but not needed in an older system.
They are more delicate then most fatter bodied fish but no where near as difficult as a moorish Idol.
The one I have now even sucks al the baby brine shrimp out of a feeder for a mandarin

Just arrived, 47 hours after being shipped. Looks just fine, although the heat pack was cold as is the water. Seems a bit smaller than the advertised 3-4"... If he is healthy though its not a big deal. Will post pics soon.
 
Well the Vlaming doesn't like him, the talbots damsels are wary. Lets see how day 1 goes. To be honest I was expecting a fish in better shape. He is very skinny and his pectoral fins are quite torn up. I will contact LA...
 
Well supposedly they will not ship out a fish that isnt eating. So if it is shipped and if on their food card, it shows that that the wholesaler feeds butterflys mysis and brine, then LA is going off the assumption that the fish was already eating mysis and brine.

Obviously its not from DD. One still might assume that they would know the condition of fish if they are going to give a 14 day guarantee. Why would it be surprising if they knew what the CBB's were eating?

they 'play the odds' , they know that most of the fish shipped are good/quality fish.

BTW, I buy from them also.

When you place the order with LA...the wholesaler, sends the 'picker' to a tank full of CBBs and he nets out the first one he sees...not the fattest, or healthiest, or most colorful...to them it's just another fish.
 
I am aware of the disconnect between LA and the wholesaler.

In any case, he seems to have survived the shipping at least. He is out from hiding but not cruising around the tank yet, the other fish are settling in to their new tankmate i think!

I will try some PE mysis first, then Hikari mysis. If he doesn't eat either in a day or so I will get a hold of some live blackworms. In the meantime he should have plenty of little stuff to pick on in the tank.

He ate! So relieved. He ignored the PE and Hikari mysis for the first 7 hours or so. He just ate some of the small Hikari mysis though, about 8 hours after arrival! Looks like he might make it after all.
 
Thats great he is already eating frozen food. I had mine for months and he would never come out for food. Although I had tons of aiptasiato keep him full too.
