I dont know where some people are getting the idea wher CBB are "slow deliberate eaters" Iv seen plenty that are just as agressive as the rest of the tank.

ANd if you order off live aquaria you have a better chance at having one eat mysis off the bat. They QT them there and make shure that they eat before they sell. Reason for knowing this is that they have 4 Coral farm tour dates We go to. ( you should really see the stuff !)

I'll check into this!!

I do have to say, the CBB I have now is just as aggressive, eats whatever I throw in the tank as fast as any other fish, but it didn't start out that way, and I think I just got REALLY lucky it converted to prep'd food.
For a long time it just hid at feeding time, and I was pretty certain it wouldn't make it.
Really, your best bet is finding a proven one through a local club member, though that doesn't happen often.
I personally prefer a good LFS and hand pick on these guys, and if you are really lucky you'll see one eating prep'd food.

I'll definitely continue checking local clubs...

The LFS I'm thinking about has always gotten CBB's that eat prepared food, sometimes the same day they arrive...but they're also kept in a tank by themself (save for a few snails, shrimp etc..)

I checked with LiveAquaria, they claim to quarantine all fish for 3 weeks and make sure they are eating healthily before selling them. Anyone else have experience with them?

My Yellow tang beat the crap out of my CB. Finally I was forced to take it back to the LFS. That poor fish wouldn't of stood a chance.

I should have mentioned the thought of moving my tang to the 30g sump (it's a breeder) for about a week so the copperband can become established....

thoughts??

That is exactly what I did to get my CBB into my 120gal with a purple tang. BTW the butterfly now eats trachyphyllia, lobophyllia, acanthastrea, and pterogorgia to name a few.

So I did it! I found a reputable store with great reviews that keeps their fish in quarantine for 3 weeks and make sure they're eating before being put up for sale. Before that, their distributor does very similar (so they say). Either way, I went to the store and watched this Copperband tearing up PE Mysis shrimp, and appeared very healthy and active. Also, the shop owner had one in a display tank that he has had for 7+ months and is a fatty...

As suggested, the yellow tang is harassing him, but it has definitely calmed down. I think/hope that in only a couple days that this will subside.

I've also attached a mirror to the tank, which catches the tang's and wrasse's attention to distract them every once in a while.

I got the fish yesterday, and didn't turn the lights on until today. I bought some PE Mysis and some Rod's while at the LFS and fed today. Needless to say everyone enjoyed the "buffet," EVEN the CBB! He wasn't scared to find himself some food.

I'm sure I'll pay for this "buffet" by means of some algae for a bit, but a fair trade off.
I maintain a ULNS, so hopefully nutrients won't even be an issue with this feeding.

I'll update with any changes.

I just wanted to add a quick update...even though it has been only a week

The CBB is going great, or so it seems. He ate from day one, but was very timid as far as "going for food." Now he is a voracious eater...I feed him 2-3x a day...and every time he plows through everyone to get the mysis. The tang is still "dominant," but doesn't mess with him too much now.

So far, so good....I know it's very early on, but I'm glad to have one eating this well after only a week. Maybe I just got lucky, who knows.

I had a copperband in a similar sized tank with a sixline. Ate mysis the first day. 6 months after introduction, withotu warning, kicked the bucket for no apparent reason.

I strongly believe they need something more nutritious than mysis (even PE). I suggest you try to get him to eat something else (or at least soak in vitamins). I think I lost mine after all the pods were eaten and mysis alone couldn't sustain it. Good luck with the CBB. an amazing fish!

Yesterday he was eating all kinds of chunks from Rod's food....he is also eying down pellets and flakes...I think it's only a matter of time before he eats these too...I hope so!!!

Here's a pic
