Copperband Injured

This isnt really a disease, but just curious if there is any hope....

I have had this copperband butterfly for around a year, healthy eater always an active fish. Never had any signs of disease or sickness. Today I come home from work and I see him laying in the sand kind of free floating with several large injuries on his side. Still breathing, a bit faster than normal but the fish seems alert. A section of scales are missing and his side has some reddish/purple patches. His fins are still in excellent condition - which I find odd due to the damage to his scales.

No tank mates added in 7+ months and never saw any fish act aggressively toward this guy. Still scratching my head trying to figure out what caused this... possibly a brush against one of my bubbletips? Anything I can do at this point or is it a lost cause? I dont have a quarantine setup ready although I could move him from my main tank and put him into my refugium since it is much calmer water, but I dont want to stress him more than he is...

Sorry to hear this. I recently lost my copperband after almost 1 year in my DT. I believe mine was lost due to malnutrition, however. He wouldn't eat anything except DRIED mysis shrimp which I tried to feed him twice a day.

The CCB is hard to get to start to eat well, but once it starts it generally will do well.

Sorry about your loss, the CCB is always very cherished.

I started a thread about this once. Copperbands are prone to that and I lost a few of them to that. (I have been keeping them since the 70s)
On autopsy I found internal bleeding where you se that purple spot.
This one also had that and you can just about see the start of it about 3/4 way down his belly.
It grew into a purple spot and I autopsied him to find internal bleeding.

I don't usually have problems with them but for some reason some of them are prone to this.

This one is a healthy one and I have had him about a year, hopefully he will live at least 10 years.
