Coral Banded Shrimp needs a new home

I came home from vacation to a missing Royal Gramma. She had been acting odd so I thought nothing of it. I got up this morning to go salmon fishing and had a few minutes to spare so I was checking out my "moon-lit" tank. As my larger Clarkii was fast asleep I observed my CBS literally climb on top of her. I had to wake her with a dip net and it took a minute. She was OUT. Had I not been there I'm afraid she would have disappeared.

Anyway, the first one that can actually get thru to me (I am fishing until 2) can have my CBS. I would like it picked up around 5pm TONIGHT. I live in Bergen, just on the edge of Genesee and Monroe counties. My phone number is (585) 880-5235.

your fears were unfounded. A CBS is not going to kill a clarkii clownfish unless the fish is in the larval or immediate post larval stage of life.
In over 18 years of reefkeeping I've never seen any Stenopus type shrimp kill a post larval stage fish.

My suggestion: keep the shrimp. They are actually wimps.

I have had 2 cbs for a couple years now and they never bothered any of the fish. They will wave their claws around when a fish passes, but I think they are more afraid of the fish.

exactly. They are trying to wave off any potential pred.

Mines a jerk but he won't take out a fish. Snails maybe. He's cool to watch hunt at night, don't know what he's getting, but he's big and healthy and molts often.

I've heard random reports of coral banded shrimp killing sprees for years. A lot of people say they're BS too. What's true? I dont know. I've always kept lysmata amboinesis, scarlet cleaner shrimp. I'm very confident they're safe. It's possible your shrimp was cleaning the clown. I don't think it's impossible that it was trying to eat it though. It's possible that attacking fish in their sleep is a learned behavior of these shrimp. Maybe it was starving once and realized fish can be food. A clarkii would not be an easy meal though.

Do you have a top on your tank? Royal Grammas are known to jump.

I do indeed have a lid on my tank. The gramma was acting weird for the last couple of weeks of it's life so I think he probably died on it's own. The clarkiis are still alive so I'm guessing he's probably safe.
