Coral growing contest 2017!

Frogspawn has generously agreed to donate frags of green slimer for our growing contest.

We will hand out frags at the spring swap. Whoever wants in will have to post here. Getting a frag will cost you a cdp point. If you dont have any cdp points a frag will cost you 10 bucks. The monetary cost is just to make sure that people arent going to take frags of sps just because their free when their tank isnt ready or set up to house sps.

Once you have your frag at home you will have one week to post a starting photo. We will then post a monthly photo for growth comparison. The contest will go for one year,or until the 2018 spring swap. A couple weeks before the 2018 spring swap we will submit our final photos and members will vote on who they think has gotten the most growth .

Because after the contest it will be impossible to fulfill my 3 frag obligation. I guess I could always just put it in the cdp tank though.

Other than pure growth photos, has anyone ever considered data collection on these contests? Lighting, flow, placement, alk, ca, mag, temp, etc to see if a correlation can be made between growth and some factor. I know everyone's system is markedly different, but maybe we can find a general trend like "corals that were between 78-80 degrees grew faster than those at 76-78" or something like that. Maybe come up with a data sheet that can be filled out throughout the competition at certain date intervals. Just a thought.

I'm a financial advisor. Things like correlation and general trends are a pretty normal part of my vocabulary.
