Ok so I stupidly went to my LFS in a rush yesterday, I was looking at all the coral they had while the employee was testing the water, so he couldn't really help until he was done so that made me more in a rush so I bought a coral without asking what it was 1st, yes I know very stupid although I have an idea about what it is.

Is this a birds nest? Please don't mind the algae I'm working on it

it's an Acropora of some sort I think. You really need to get your tank in better shape before you buy anything else! I expect that it will be choked out by the GHA long before it has a chance to grow.

Ohh ok well thank you, I've been battling the algae for a little bit, and I got a tuxedo urchin and he's been doing a fantastic job and I've also been picking it off by hand too here and there

Sounds like a good start, do you know whats causing it? Are you using RODI water and running some kind of phosphate remover like phosguard?

That was probably the problem, I used to use my tap water from a well, which has a lot of minerals even after going through the water softener. But I switched over to RODI like 2 months ago. Like it doesn't really grow fast for some reason because the urchin will clear out an area and it'll stay hair algae free. And I have 0 phosphates

Well water would definitely cause algae to grow, sounds like your on the right track though. Your phosphates read zero because what phosphates are present are being consumed by the algae, I would personally run some phosban just to hurry the process up but it sounds like you will be rid of it soon anyway.
