Anyone have an idea what these two are? First was on a rock from Bill and the second was a little freebie frag from AI Reefer.

The first pic looks like Alveopora possibly. The second does look like some form of Hydnophora like Rick said.

I do not think the first is Alveopora as it only has eight tenticles and not the characteristic 12. Also, that is listed as difficult to maintain and mine is thriving. ;)

The second I do not believe to be Hydnophora as mine is white/faint beige instead of green. The texture does look similar though.

Maybe tomorrow I'll try to take some closer photos. My lights just went off.

Michael, What color? Are they blueish grey In color? Or more clear to whitish pink. I have an Unidentified similar growth In my own tank, They are spreading out on one particular rock like a mat.

Both are in general white. The first has a faint yellow and almost looks like a daisy. the second one has a tinge of pink/beige.

I looked at the pavona suggestion. Mine is more branching in appearance and does not seem to plate like pavona. Hard to say for sure as it is only ~1/2" still. Has been growing slowly since I got it a few months ago.

The first one is it helps, has a stony base that the coral will retreat into occasionally.

The first one, Was It from the live rock I sold you? Or from frags?
It could possible be the remnants of a Toadstool I had at one time or some other soft coral like a colt possibly.

The first one was on the live rock.

the second one was from AIReefer, which means it probably also came from you. ;)

Both unknowns have a hard/stony skeleton structure that the polyps come out of.

The first one looks/sounds a lot like the Pipe Organ Coral , just without the feathery petals.

Irritate the first coral and take a picture of it's skeleton.

The second one I am almost sure it is a hydnophora as well.

Wow. Old thread. :) First one is a toadstool. Second one is gone when I broke down my old tank. Wish I still had it though. :)
