I am sure this has been done before but here it is again .
I am just curious . How many people have a dedicated QT tanks for their corals ? I look so forward to going to the SPS thread to see some awesome coral being shown off . Not . It seems within the first several posts I see someone inquiring about a pest issue .
I myself have downgraded , so my QT frag tank is my display now . I either have to go abstinent with no more corals or set a QT tank up .
I almost got burned twice with some pests from online shopping of frags and this is within the last two months . JEEZ .
Yes , I understand all pests are different and treatments will vary but it seems as if you have to them them all now for SPS

TIA

I dont, but i got all mine from a good friend whos tank has been up years and is pest free. Either way i will be putting one up prior to my 180g going up, no reason to invest thousands of dollars in corals and not have insurance(QT tank)

No offense , That kind of thinking got me burned the same way with Red Bugs back in 2008 . My friend who picked up the corals for me til this day has never stopped apologizing for that fiasco .

On the brighter side I am glad you are setting up a QT tank . :)

Oh for sure buddy! I wouldn't do it again w/o one!! As should anyone else! I couldn't handle losing my babies :D Whats your plan on setting up a QT tank? Are you just using your main tank as one now and upgrading? Im feeling a 20g with a hob filter / skimmer / a set of T5 bulbs will do me just fine, havent put tons of thought into it yet because i have a good 6months till it will be up and another 6months till i buy some nice pieces. My other tanks will fill it up for the time being so i have plenty of time to brainstorm the best way of going about it.

I've tried to set one up twice and has failed in the past. I used two 10 gallon tanks, one acts like a sump / fudge and I can't get sps frags to stay alive past 3 weeks. I had skimmers, reasonable lighting for the system. I blame it on the age of the system causing an unstable param.

I'm however on my third attempt again, this time I run an auto water change system and we'll see if it could keep my frags alive.

I have had a QT set up in the past, but since the move only have one system going that I trust to have my nicer corals in... I hope that changes by the end of the summer, and it should!!! At that time I'll have a QT in place... :D

Did you use the old tank water ? any live rock ,sponge filter ?

I will proly set up a pico for qt . Lights , a filter and pico ph . Just put a frag rack in it . I have no choice now if I ever want to add any more frags. I was given some good advice to pick up a jewelers look to inspect with .
Other recourse is to become a coral monk. ( no more buying or trading corals ) .
