Coral quarantine tank

So I'm setting up a coral quarantine tank.

I currently have some sponges and filter floss in my dt sump that's building up bacteria. My dt is fully cycled now for over a month.

If I add the sponges and/ or filter floss to my qt is the cycle instant? or does it just help seed and speed up the cycle??

The sponge will carry enough bacteria to process the coral waste provided you only have corals in the tank or perhaps one small fish.

you might still see a slight cycle due to increase in new surface area....but then you might not. Keep an eye on ammon......

Really no need to QT corals if you dip them.

What dip are you using? I've not found a dip that would prevent any and all unwanted hitchhikers. For example, I doubt most coral dips would kill a tiny aiptasia that you don't notice on the side of the frag plug (or isn't visible to the naked eye). With that said, I like to live on the edge and go for the dip/inspection on a frag rack a couple days method. However, QTing is the only nearly surefire way I've found to avoid pests.

I use "revive" as a dip, many in the US use "Bayer". Many say Bayer is good, esoeciaally fir SPS red bug. Bayer is banned where I live because it is a strong pesticide which some in the medical field is linked to cancer, so I must use "revive"

Part of dipping is aeration, inspection, brushing off, picking off, until I am satisfied that its Clean....so far...zero unwanted hitchhikers and this rebuild now 15 months old.

Again, my concern is an aiptasia sneaking by which I doubt revive would kill. However, my point was that a QT tank is the BEST method. I'm not currently doing it (living on the edge) and I dip with CoralRX or Bayer. I'm not opposed to dipping in any way, my point was just that a QT tank + dipping is the BEST method.
