Anyone know anything about the new store that is taking over where aquaworld used to be? I guess it will be called Coral Reef Shop. They said they were opening June 1st but when I stopped by they were not even close to ready to open. I just want info. as we don't need a 10 page thread about the new owner's ethics. TIA -Jordan

Last I heard, they were shooting for mid-June for a Grand Opening. I know Ken and Brian are working feverishly to get everything set up the right way the first time.

The doors were open so I stopped by today. They said that the grand opening is this saturday. They are woking very hard to get everything ready. Tanks look nice and the store was cleaned up quite a bit. They have some of the best live rock I've ever seen and they carry a lot of jebo and other foreign products.

I also stopped by today because the doors were open.
hahaha

They only have two tanks running right now, but they have some good looking stuff.

I will be there at 10:00AM SHARP on Sat to grab a rare item I saw in there today. I can't tell you what it is, incase you get there first :)

The place looks AWESOME, they said their fish come in tomorrow, and coral comes in wed. I was really impressed and the owner seemed very nice. We had a 20 min conversation.

Don't know about prices yet though cause none were posted yet.

I was the first customer there at 10:00AM Sat
I was there to try and buy the pair of black percs
And found out they were like Ost and they were "not for sale"

So I got some other stuff instead..
They said they were going to frame my dollar bill.

I really liked the new store.
They had some nice stuff.

My youngest son and I went there that afternoon, Steve. It's a pretty impressive set-up. It was interesting to see all the tanks positioned on heavy-duty, steel frames. Very open and airy.

Also, to be honest, I've never had so much 'welcome' attention given to me at a LFS before. Even the owners children asked if I needed help:)

Right now, the SW/FW ratio is about 60/40, with SW on the right side and FW on the left. I anticipate that half the FW section will be converted to SW in the next few months:p

There's one huge reef display in the middle of the store, with a couple more sandbed displays up front.

Pretty exciting times for Sacramento fish and reef keeping. We've got John's (YourReef) wonderful 'store for the hobbyist'. The Coral Reef Shop. That new Fish Planet place opening up near Arden. Exotic moving to an incredibly large location.

Woot!

Now, if only someone could afford the $4 per square foot in Elk Grove:furious:

Went today durring my lunch break, over all pretty nice :) Nothing in particular grabbed my eye as far as fish or coral, as it was all pretty standard stuff, but must say they do have a very nice center diplay (very clean unobstructed setup)where they are keeping most of there corals for sale, that are clearly marked on tank itself in sharpie. Definately worth a stop to check out, although for the more advanced aquarists looking for a coral you may want to wait a few weeks for some more diverse stock.

Best of luck to the new owner, seems like a nice guy.

went into the store yesterday, I like the layout it is nice, the middle tank is nice, He had a nice rock with a big rock with like 25+ mushrooms, he was asking about $125 for it. His salt is a little high $13, but his cyclopeeze is 8.99 and thats way cheaper the Ost.

He also has these 2 bright neon green carpet anemones that are really nice.

Went and checked out the Coral Reef Shop today. I was totally impressed w/ the arrangement of the store and their stocking tanks. The display tank was VERY nice. Definately the cleanest store in the area. Brian takes alot of pride in his knowledge of the aquaria business and it shows in his store. He also will take time to talk to you, not anti-social like some of the other stores in the area who treat you like they don't need your business. For being open less then a week, he's got alot of stuff and plans to bring in alot more. Definately worth the trip to visit the areas' newest store!!

I hope to get out that way sometime to take a look - it sounds really nice !

I couldn't help but laugh....$13 is a little high for salt ? Really ? lol
Here in Vacaville and nearby surroundings, its anywhere from $17.99 to $23 for a (50g) bag of IO !!!! Its essential to not run out when a Sac-trip isn't possible. :)

Shilo, I was thinking the same thing. $13 isn't outrageous. On a good day, you can get it for $10/bag. Brian and his family are great people do deal with. I think you'll be impressed!

Salt prices have been going up from the wholesalers, O st and John had to raise there salt $1, But think how much salt they push out the store. He just opened up, so not much history. He also said that he wants to focus mainly on the livestock.

Yeah he is nice, we were talking and he was very nice. His wife and daughters were there and there youngest was playing with my oldest. It's nice they are family oriented also.

I've been impressed so far.

I told them they need to get smaller frag tanks though because I have a nano and don't want a rock the size of my tank for over $100 dollars.

They said they were going to work on smaller frag tanks.
